Life after BMW Warranty, 3rd party pros and cons.

Some of our cars warranties are coming to an end and it wont be pretty when something breaks.

Looking for pros and cons regarding aftermarket warranty vs BMW extended warranty.

BMW Extended Warranty
Pros:
1. Access to information, parts, diagnostic equipment, expertise.
2. Rent a car and road side assist (i think).

Cons:
1. Fear of the BMW Gods.
2. PUMA case and digging into the ECU or DME for data.
3. More tools to work against you if necessary.
4. Mods are not a good thing.
5. Removal of tunes and Mods more likely.
6. Difficult and costly to sue or even pressure into fixing problems.
7. Dealer, SA and BMW one big family that can work against you.
8. More expensive

Third Party Warranty

Pros:
1. Not controlled by the BMW Gods.
2. Can be taken to any shop authorized to do BMW warranty work.
3. Tuner friendly shops may even install your Mods.
4. No PUMA case and no digging into the ECU or DME for data, however there may be some process if foul play is suspected.
5. Some shops like Mods and will hook you up.
6. Plans can include rent a car and roadside assist.
7. Shop can down right lie to help you get the problem fixed.
8. Can be your best friend and work with you, take off your mods if necessary for inspection by 3rd party police.
9. Much easier to sue or pressure.
10. You can still go to BMW for warranty work, (win, win).
11. You can get less or more coverage to meet you risk tolerance.
12. Usually Cheaper
13. Might work with you tune vendor to improve your tune.

Cons:
1. Shops may not be up to spec with repairing our cars, yet.
2. Payment and approval process can get ugly.
3. Less access to information, parts, diagnostic equipment, expertise.
4. If things go bad and they can Rat you out and your warranty is gone.

Excuse the Smilies my daughter really wanted them.

Please feel free to add, Im sure I missed a lot.

Thanks,

BMWs extended warranty happens to be a 3rd party warranty that is labeled as a BMW warranty.
