How do I prevent rust?
Does anyone know what material the red highlighted part is made of? I want to dirll some holes in it to mount resistors and I'm wondering what to use in order to prevent the holes from causing any rust?

Just plain old cold rolled steel painted black, only way to stop rust is to grind into the metal where the rust is at and then repaint with a primer and then the black spray paint, same color.
To prevent wash a lot in salty conds. and also use a light old spray on it. Not WD40 though

Something as simple as grease is a perfect rust prevention mechanism. As long as you apply it to the bare metal the moisture will never get to it.

After you drill the holes paint them with the proper paint. That will stop the rust. Then mount whatever you want.
