Quick HPFP question

Sorry, I could not find the answer with search...

I'm looking at purchasing an 07 335 with 35k miles. If has never been repaired, just maintenanced.

Question I have is that what happens if the HPFP fails AFTER 50k? Are all 335's guaranteed for 10/120k on the pump? Is it only vehicles that were repaired and then BMW extended the warranty on those vehicles?

Any other big things I should be concerned with it?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

See the HPFP failure FAQ sticky, if you haven't already.
It's very detailed so you should be able to find your answers there.

All 2007-2009 E9x are covered under a 10yr/120k mile warranty.

What else can go wrong? These won't be covered unless under an extended warranty.
Injectors. Replacing all six can run ~$3800 parts and labor
Coil packs
Vanos solenoids.

Have a local dealer run a history on the car to make sure that the HPFP warranty is stated on the records somewhere

Thanks so much for the help. This site ALMOST has too much information which makes it hard to sift through.

I called BMW NA and they said, "Yeah, it should be covered." Where's the absolute yes or no? Should, maybe, kinda are scary words.

There is no absolute yes or no because the warranty can be voided; for examples: due to engine/fuel systems mods or too much ethanol % content in the fuel, etc.

But under normal use, then, yes the HPFP is covered under a 10yr/120K mile warranty.

Here is the definitive word from SIB 13 03 09:

Quote:
As a commitment to our customers and to demonstrate our confidence in our product, BMW will extend the emissions warranty of the High-pressure Fuel Pump (HDP) from 4 years or 50,000 miles to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first.

The emissions warranty extension for this component applies to the above-listed models only, and is transferable to any subsequent purchaser of these models.

This extended emissions warranty is applicable to vehicles registered in all 50 states.

Warranty coverage for all other parts is not affected.

BMW will inform all affected owners of the above-listed models of their extended High-pressure Fuel Pump emissions warranty. A sample letter is attached.

Another question. Only 335 has HPFP issue, but not the 535? Can anyone confirm and why is that?

Not that many 5ers on here in comparison to a 3 series, thus less posts about they failures from them.

I thought it was only through 2008 that was covered. Have they changed it?

Yes, as of Jan 2010. SIB 13 03 09

N54 Special Limited High-pressure Pump (HDP) Emissions Warranty of 10 Years/120,000 Miles

MY 2009 E89 – Z4 sDrive 35i with N54 engine

MY 2009 E71 – X6 xDrive 35i with N54 engine

SITUATION
BMW has become aware of a potential problem that could affect the durability of the High–pressure Fuel Pump (HDP) of certain MY 2007, 2008, and 2009 BMW automobiles equipped with N54 engines. We estimate that only a small percentage of vehicles will actually develop a problem. Vehicles affected may have the Service Engine Soon lamp illuminated with various low fuel pressure-related faults (e.g., 29DC, 29F1, 29F2 ) stored in the Engine Control Module (DME). Also, the affected vehicles may experience an extended engine starting time ("long crank") or reduced engine performance ("engine failsafe mode") when the High-pressure Fuel Pump malfunctions.
