MDM Mode?

What does this do and do you use it on the road? Tried it last night and it allows you to drift on roundabouts.

Basically MDM is a milder level of traction control, it only gives a small amount of input but beware cos it can still bite you on the arse

Correct.

It is a less intrusive version of the stability control system. In other performance makes, the less intrusive mode is also available and commonly referred to as "competition mode," which is a much more sensible name than M Dynamic Mode (whatever that means).

In MDM mode you can floor it off the lights and it wont stall like it does with traction fully on.

You can programme your M-Button to activate MDM.

+2..There

MDM is completely useless. Its just high level M marketing. It is so intrusive it will not allow you to do any aggressive driving AT ALL. This compared to C6 Z06 and even the P car.

MDM lets you have a little fun with out spinning or getting in a bad situation, And on the track it can be a little obtrusive when your pushing the limits.

On a slightly similar or different note?

On the Power setting, there is normal, sport, sport+ but in the manual it only refers to normal and sport? Strange that it has an extra sport mode. But I guess that's just throttle response and doesn't really adjust the power output?

BUT! It makes the engine sound different in sport plus? Anyone else notice it?

Makes a louder/throatier V8 sound when accelerating.

EDC is suspension setting, where as MDM is traction control related.

I find the normal TC on the M3 quite good, surprisingly! My 335i is to be a super nanny even when dry off the line. Use to cut the power like mad, like hitting a tree.

But time and time again I tried flooring the M3 on normal TC on and it flashes but definitely surges forward and out of bends.

But MDM is really safe and fast. Can really feel it tugging the rear back in when you try and floor it. Relatively fast and safe. Thumbs up!

Must admit, haven't dared to completely switch it off in mine but, but have done with the 335i.

Is there any way to turn mdm on without having to go to M mode?

Nope, but you can change everything else to UNCHANGED
like steering, power, EDC, except DSC to MDM in M-Mode.

So the M button activates MDM only when you press it.

Nope. You need to set MDM to work with the M Mode.

Some one should come up with a way to code this so that one of the buttons (like the cd changer) on the steering wheel can be used to activate mdm mode only.
