starting issue 2nd time in for service...any ideas?
Hey everyone,
Got my 09 335i xdrive having starting issues. Was in the dealer january 6th for the same issue they replaced It with a rebuilt one. Seemed okay for a bit now yesterday the issue came back. Usuallly on a cold start I open the car, key in ignition, clutch down (car is parked In my driveway e-brake up) press start button, car proceeds to start, then vehicle Makes a high pitch whine with the sound of grinding, for about 4 to 6 seconds this Continues with my finger off the starter button. I press the starter button To turn off, I then proceed to start vehicle again and it usually starts fine. It only seems to happen when the car sits in the cold overnight, I have scheduled it for service Tonite to see if the dealer can replicate the issue. In the meantime I was wondering If anyone else had this problem. Thanks Marco |

Most service reps don't fix the car unless it throws a code. Unfortunately you know the car is busted. They just leave you flat until it's convenient to repair. There's obviously something wrong with the software to miss the problems so many times. You're just out of luck unless you have a cool dealer.

Everyone has a dumb SA story to share, but let's face it, the whole experience underwhelms, whereas the cars are fun to drive as long as they're working properly. Forget the $$$ it takes to keep them running, if that's factored-in it's game over. It's all about the car and driving. |

It really bugs me that a person could have a 2k8-9 and need a new starter motor. I just question the supply chain and BMW's suppliers or what they spec out. Here I go again, my 12 y.o. Nissan has not had a new starter, water pump, fuel pump, etc. yet. It cannot perform like a BMW, but the components don't break. What is so hard about BMW obtaining a starter that will last 10+ years?

They cover all this with the high price tag. If a BMW ever becomes an item that people are not willing to pay a premium for, they will topple. Look at Volvo and Saab, which were desirable vehicles back in our grandparents' days. |

Man, it's all about the money and nothing about the customer. I got to tell, I love driving that car, but my dealer is lazy as all get out. There must be tons of lazy dealers out there. There's three things I can't stand hearing when I go there:
a) Can't replicate b) It's your gasoline c) What did you do to the car? My other ride has the same environment as the 335i (gas station, garaged, well-kept and no mods) No issues; nothing but the best. They do need to get out of that "lazy mode", and get to work. I can't imagine how they treat prople who mod their cars, but it can't be anyless they do for me because they have done nothing. I think it kills them everytime I drive in the shop..............ugh |
