Why the advertised torque data during overboost, but no mention of horsepower? Surely HP is over 350 with the 14+psi boost, but not a word.

One of the articles I read (sorry don't remember which) mentioned that the overboost was deliberately cut off at a low-enough RPM that peak HP wasn't affected.

That makes sense. I was thinking, hmmm, 7 secs of overboost, that's enough for a <4.5 sec 0-100kmh dash to impress the car rags. But if it tapers off by 5000 rpm then no effect on peak hp.

According to this HP & TQ chart, I think that the TQ ‘plateau’ is simply [ edit: temporarily ] capped \ chopped at a higher level – between 1,500 and 4,500 [ edit: and only at WOT ]. Thus HP [ peaking at a much higher RPM ] would not be effected, nor need to be artificially reduced. I believe that one of the reviews said something to the effect that the boost in performance was most noticeable at low & midrange RPM. I could be wrong . . . - Ray Happy with more TQ Last edited by rayainsw; 01-31-2010 at 05:19 PM.. |

I have not seen a chart showing the overboost yet. The over boost has 500 Nm [!] vs. 450 when not in overboost, and regular N54/N55 is 400 Nm.
The .1 sec difference in 0-60 stat is silly -- a 25% increase in torque (400 -> 500 Nm) will do a lot more than that.

From what people have been saying, BMW under-rates their 0-60 times. Idk why. But, we'll see what the magazines can get out of the car.
