Bad O2 Sensor
Pretty vague but...
How can one's O2 sensor go bad? I did a small search, and well, it seems that people had theirs messed up cause they (or something) messed with it or something like that.. I had my DPs install in October with 02 sims I have had no problems regarding them but after having a DDV/Charge pipe and FMIC and OCC installed last weekend, I keep throwing 02 sensor related codes... but those two don't touch the 02 sensors or the o2 sims.. So, did mine just go bad...? I am thinking of going to the dealer soon... Currently mods, if it means anything: JB3 1.4beta, RR DPs, RR OCC, Helix FMIC, RR Charge pipe with DDV, BMS DCI. Thanks......

It's not unheard of for them to just fail out of the blue.

Not necessarily, the car could have treated a missing sensor the same way as a sensor that wasn't working.

Leaving the car running for long periods of time upon starting, i.e., letting the car/engine "warm up" (which is never recommended), can cause O2 sensors to go bad.
But that's if its done regularly. Probably every day for a year

i've heard that o2 sensors are a very common cause of the Check Engine warning light.

I'll turn the car on and want to leave for work, then I forget something so I run in and get it which takes less than a minute soooo i don't think that is a cause lol so is the only way to fix this is to go visit BMW?

BMW is one of the ways to get that done, but they are expensive as SHIT. ^^^ $180 each sounds about right. |

What if I am NOT modded?
Do I STILL have to pay for the sensors?? can it be under warranty??? cause it if "pops out" wouldn't that be because it wasn't secure enough? (I am modded, but I can become unmodded if need be, I paid for labor on my mods cause I was lazy but I can do them all myself if i have to to save me $180 each damn sensor)

Sensors can't pop out, they are threaded into your exhaust system. The wire could be damaged (ripped). In any case, your best bet is to de-mod and take it in.

Have you taken any cats out? If so, the sensors after the cats might be the ones acting up because they think the car is running too rich.

Unfortunately I can't find the article at this time, but the basic point was this: Certain codes point back to your O2 sensors, but it's not because the sensor itself is faulty. Rather, it's that the sensor is detecting something out of order, whether it be an improper air/fuel mixture or high levels of a pollutant. I wish I would remember more, but hopefully that helps a little...
