Reading, and have some orange peel questions...

1. When treated, does this treatment stay forever or for as long as the last ones occured?
2. How much money to remove it?
3. Anyone got before/after pics?

It should stay forever, a portion of the clearcoat will be removed clear up the "peel". Theres a thread on here with the process well documented along with a youtube clip...search for it if you feel the need.

You need to wet sand the car to remove it.

Hi,

Orange peel is endemic in modern cars primarily because of the mandated use of low VOC urethane paints. The flow characteristics are affected adversely as a result.

While the clear coat certainly contributes significantly to the overall appearance of orange peel, there is a possibility that the base coat also has some. If that's the case, there's really no way to eliminate it.

Wet sanding the car with 2000 grit paper followed by sequential polishing with finer and finer compounds will help. However, and here's the big problem - you will end up thinning the clear coat. That's a recipe for disaster if the original clear was just thick enough (which it probably is). A thin clear coat will delaminate prematurely and since its function is to keep the sun's UV rays from reaching your base coat, the base coat will also start to fade prematurely.

The right way to do it is to have a body shop apply more clear coat such that the resulting film after wet sanding meets the specification for thickness.

Better yet, find a shop that will apply nitrocellulose lacquer :-)

Regards,
Adnan

Correct. The entire car needs to be wetsanded, which could negatively impact the integrity of the clear after a while depending on how it's done. It's a permanent fix, orange peel doesn't grow back.

I never noticed orange peel until my dad had his hot rod repainted and I finally saw what a jet black is supposed to look like. Nonetheless, it seems like overkill to eliminate peel on a something like a 3 series, or any dd for that matter.
