Thank god for the rubber insurance
When I picked up my new 08 335 in Oct. 2007 I hesitated to buy the tire insurance for $580 but I did anyway. Fast foward....Last Sunday I had too much to drink so i let the wife drove my car...it was late at night 12:30am is my guess. She hit a huge pot hole and destroyed the front driver side as well as the rear driver side. Had my car towed to the dealer and they came back saying 3 tires will need to be replaced cuz they also found the passenger rear had a nail stuck to it. The bill was close to 1700 including alignment. I will be responsible for only 200 for the alignment. Over the past 2 years total of 6 RFTs which I didn't have to pay a dime for. Needless to say it sure was a Win Win.

What's the difference between "tire insurance" and "road hazard warranty"? Aren't they the same thing, but "road hazard warranty" is cheaper? About $25 per tire.

I have had mine since july and have already gone through 3 (just saw a nail today so 4) run-flats. Does this apply to aftermarket tires?

I don't know if the road hazard covers wheels like the tire insurance. I know that my 189's(summer) and my Breyton GTS'(winter) are both covered in case anything happens.

Made two great decisions. A winwin.
Great to let your wife drive when you're too drunk and good to cough up for the tire insruance. Def worth it.! Those stock RFT's cost a pretty penny.

The road hazard warranty only cover tires, not the wheels. I don't think the "road insurance" would cover the wheels, do they?

i do not know the diferences but my package for $580 covers both tires and rims if damaged from something on the road such as potholes and other debris not suppose to be on the road..but factory only tires and wheels only, does not apply for aftermarket products.

The insurance should cover both tires and rims and its been great so far for me. I am getting one rim replaced and the other 3 rims fixed today, in addition to already having 2 tires replaced.

You guys who make out on these policies can't wait to post these victories but I have yet to hear from the vast majority who pay for one of these policies only to get nothing in return. Congrats to those who make out but it is important to note that this is like going to Vegas, some win but to make business sense most will get nada.

Yup. I didn't really haggle the price of my tire insurance and paid $750. It paid off within 2 months when I bubbled both driver's side tires when I hit a pothole. The total replacement cost was $900 but I didn't pay a cent.
Edit: My insurance covers whatever tires and rims are on the car. It's a better deal for the insurance company bc I'm on cheap rims and non-RFT snow tires now. When you live in the NYC area, you are bound to hit a huge pothole so I think tire insurance is a must. |

If I never have to use it, thats worth the price right there. And yes, most do cover both tires and rims, especially on lease turn in, I'm not liable for any damage for the wheels.

Buying the Wheel and Tire Insurance was one of the best decisions I made. Within the first year, I had to replace both front tires due to bubbles. Now at the start of year three, both rear tires need replacing for the same reason. Its definately saved me a ton of cash already.

Good for you for letting her drive, but definitely don't blame her! It could have been anyone driving who hit that pothole since it was late at night.
Anyways, glad everything worked out for you, but that must have been a buzz killer!

My experience has been different--I was fully for spending the $390 for my tire/wheel protection. It's now been 38 mos., and I have NEVER used it once.
As I suspected, it's just like insurance, they analyze the risk v. premium and offer it at a price where they can collect the $$$ for doing nothing. Sure, they lose in the OP's case, but they have plenty of people like me to carry the slack. As for the other protection package where they wanted $799 and I got it for $499, again, a total waste. Got one ding repaired and two touch-ups. Out of pocket that would have cost maybe $120 tops. I would advise anybody out there to avoid these "protection" offers from the dealership. Save your money for the extended warranty (would be nice to apply the $499 plus $390 to a BMW extended warranty).... |

You know, I considered getting this, but the cost was about $1300 ... so I decided against it for now. 17" Tires and wheels are probably slightly at less risk of damage than 18 or 19's ... but I've still considered it.
