15000 still no service notification
My car already has 15,000 miles on it, but the computer still says that it is 3700 miles away from the first service !! Is that normal ?
Last night after I started my car, the "service engine soon" light stayed on for like 10 seconds... at first I was happy because I thought it is finally time. But then it dissapeared, and I check the computer it says 3700 miles away from service. I did a oil change at 10,000 miles out of my pocket, and the dealer did not reset the computer. My question is, is it normal to have the first service at 18,000 miles ? If not, what should I do ?

It's normal. I have 800 miles to go and I have 17,450 on the odometer right now. I tried setting an appt. because I have to get a squeeky steering wheel taken care and they wouldn't even take it in slightly early for the oil change. They told me as close to "0" as possible, so I have to wait about another 2-weeks.
I also paid for an oil change at 6700 miles.

I took my car in for its first oil change todya at 14565, miles, 4000 miles shirt of the "needed"oil change as per the car, but it's been over a year since I bought the car, so I took it in. Got it done in two hours. SA said that because this was an "early oil service", they could not reset the service warning. So in 4000 miles or so, my service now loght will come on. He said they likely will change my oil again at that time and reset the light, so that service indicator and actual mileage coincide.... cool, huh?
I tried to get him to change my oil at 10000 miles, and even offered to pay for it, but he swore I didnlt need it.

Have had the car now for two and a half months or so, and at roughly 10500km right now (6500 miles). Service indicator on the iDrive is indicating that the first service is at 30000km (18600 miles), so I still have a bit to go.

I must drive like a granny compared to you guys - I have 14000 miles on the clock and the car says I still have another 9000 miles to go before the first service! I had the oil changed at 8000 out of my own pocket though.

Just noticed today that the oil service indicator had gone down from 30000km to 21000, a drop of 9000km!
Since my car is almost at 11000km already that means I'm more then halfway, and at my current rate I should go for an oil change in under 3 months. |

Mine has consistently been pointing me to a service date where I'll have about 19K miles on the car (I have 5.6K now, service says 13K to go). I'll hit a year a lot earlier than that. I am assuming the dealers know that the 1-year anniversary service is a free oil change?

Thats good to hear. I Thought I had a problem with my Service Indicator. Having had the car for over 9 months and 12,500 miles, and the Service Indicator saying another 6000 miles before the First Service. I took my Key fob into the BMW Service Centre for them to check, and they confirmed that it will be something like 18,000 miles before it needs its first Service.
I am hoping that this is Condition Based Service is correct, and a true reflection on impressive BMWs engineering quality. I wish I hadn't bothered to pay for Maintenance/ Service up front now, but hopefully this all bodes well for low long term servicing costs. |

Any chance BMW stretching it to the extreme now that they have to pay for oil change? Mine were on 10-12K interval, at around 11K and 23K. Drive harder to shorten it, or go to jammed area for a stop-and-go traffic . I bet you'll shorten the interval.

I did my first oil change out of pocket at 10K and dealer did not reset.
Service indicator went down to zero at about 18.5K and got my free oil service done at that time. At near 20k..I had them update my progman (oil change interval said 15K again when I took it in)...had not done this update since I took delivery. When I picked up my car...service indicator updated and now said 10K to go! (so now I get next one at 30K total miles!)
