Exhaust rattle: transmission to exhaust bracket smashed
I recently heard a rattle toward the middle/front of the car whenever I put my car into park or whenever I slowly accelerate from a complete stop. I took the car the dealer for a check up. My SA told me the transmission to exhaust bracket was smashed. He believes I hit something seeing that my car is lowered (possibly went too fast on a speedbump). The charge is $225. Is anyone familiar with this bracket? I would like to possibly buy this exhaust bracket and have a local muffler shop install it. Thoughts?

If it's just a bracket I'd recommend getting the part from Tischer and installing it yourself. You'll probably save more than 1/2 what your SA quoted you.

i had something like this happen to me in my 328i. i stripped the screw that held the exhaust bracket, so it was impossible to tighten. at certain rpm's it would rattle horribly making my car sound like a and old beater.
it was around $300 to fix at the dealership, sounds about right.

Do you know where this is located? I looked under the car and only noticed a holder that was around the two pipes. It was a bit mangled and the exhaust shop simply put a spot weld on it to reduce the movement. This was under the rear passenger side seat though. I couldn't find anything by the transmission.

Here is the exhaust diagram I pulled up from REALOEM. While inspecting the car, it appeared that part 13 was bent. My exhaust shop spot welded this piece to the pipes, but I still hear a slight rattle. It looks like either part 10 or 12 needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if this is a straight bolt on I can just remove/replace?

I don't know if this is helpful but...

thanks for the info. My part 13 is bent like yours and it rattles alot during low rpms like idling at a light, or driving in a parking garage lol. makes your car sound like its breaking down! also, some vibration when revs are up. Again much appreciated Jayreplay!

I was working on my car recently and took part 10 and 13 off and didnt put it back on when I went for a test drive, I dont get any rattle during most my drive. I plan on putting it back though just for extra exhaust support. I think it rattled once when I went over some rough road due to no support.
