Ordered? On the lot? Used?

I made this poll because i was curious to see how many of the people on this forum bought there car either by custom order, just on the lot (new) or used.

Lot, but fortunately it was pretty much exactly what I wanted and was just delivered to the dealer. Due to me being busy, I didn't have time to order one at the time. I'll order next time regardless of what's on the lot though.

Plenty of people with ZSP upgrade the suspension anyway. Don't regret it so much.

There's another option not listed.
Bought new from dealer, already on the way.

I had my previous car totaled so didn't have the months for an ED or otherwise order-to-make, and couldn't find one on the lot of a dealer who was willing to sell at a decent price.

I worked with a dealer who found a car that fit my specs that had been ordered by some other dealer for their own stock, manufactured and was on a ship already. They traded one of their own (but different spec) cars, swapping slips on the ship so to speak, and I ended up with my car after about 5 weeks.

I was very happy, and all my sales guy had to do was a lot of phone calls and haggling. Since I took delivery via PD in the factory in SC, we never actually met.

I love that BMW builds cars to your order, and that you can anxiously check progress online as your car goes through the assembly, paint, and delivery process. If you have the time, don't sell yourself short. Order the car exactly the way you want it and wait it out. It's an excruciating pleasure that everyone should have a chance to enjoy.

Same thing goes for Mini coopers, they even give you a number to call that keeps you updated on your car.

Bought used because it was exactly the car I wanted. I was going to order the exact same car at the dealer that very day. Then the sales guy said he had a used with 5k on the clock. Saw that and the 10k difference in price and bought it right there. Couldn't be happier.

Will definately order mine next and take Euro delivery.

Agreed, it was a strange concept to me. I don't think you can do that with any Japanese car. The test is whether or not the mfg. has your name associated with a build.

It would not seem that building things to order is cost-effective (look at Dell computers' mighty fall from grace), but I'm sure the cost is passed along to all BMW buyers....

I got my car used, it wasn't even CPO but it was on at a CPO lot haha. I searched until I found the car with the options I wanted (Sports Package/Premium Package) because I just had to have that steering wheel to move those Xenons. The seats too!

Aside from that, the two things I did wish my car had that can't be installed are:

1.) PDC - (Should be standard, really)
2.) Comfort Access
