What are the "must have" options?
I currently have a 135i that looks like it might be going back to BMW. I'm thinking about replacing it with a E90 335i or 335i xdrive. I'd choose the xdrive hands down, but the lack of sport suspension kills me.
Currently I'm looking at: Space gray Oyster or chestnut leather Sport with 18" wheel option (I love the m-sport wheels but am not crazy about the bodykit) Cold weather Comfort access Logic7 *Maybe* nav and park distance Am I missing anything? |

I would also highly recommmend PDC for how inexpensive it is.

Bare necessities to me would be sport pkg, iDrive/nav and Logic7. For you, a cold weather pkg may be useful too. Everything else - premium, PDC, sunroof, xenons, CA - is either just for cosmetics or electronic craps waiting to break down.

I have premium on the 135. I really dislike the auto-dimming side mirrors. They get too dark and make it unsafe to put on window tint. I'd pass on the premium package for that reason alone, though I'll miss the multifunction rear view mirror.

The only must have option is the Sports Package.
Other options to highly consider: 1) Logic 7 (Gotta sound good) 2) Ipod and usb (Gotta have my tunes) 3) Premium Package (Blue-tooth, folding mirrors, universal garage, etc....) 4) M-Package ( If you're getting an e90 this is a must. The M wheel is much better than the regular Sports) 5) 230's ( If you don't get the M-pack's 225 M's this is the way to go) 6) Idrive (I don't have it, but if you like the tech it's worthwhile) CA and PDC are lower on the list but useful as well.

sports package and heated seats are the only options I was going to buy. After experiencing almost all the packages in my car, I can say without a doubt that I gotta have them all in my next car.

(xenons are standard for the 335)
Stay with that color, You'll love it. I regret not getting the sport package. ( mostly because of steering wheel and seats)

Here is a dirty little secret: there is no "must have." I absolutely love all the options on my E91, and there isn't a single feature I don't have that I have lusted after. There are some (like the active cruise control) which I'd like but did not think were worth the money. Otherwise, if I had to order it again, probably would order the car exactly as it is now.
One other comment: If you think you MAY want a feature, go for it. Its really hard to add many features later on.

What do you mean they get too dark? With tint, there will be less light hitting the sensor so they will dim less. If anything, the sides will not be dark enough if your front tint is lighter than the rear tint.

For me: Sport, CA, Logic 7, 6FL are musts. Nav and Premium would be high on the list. I certainly don't need X drive in SoCal.

I think (but am not sure if the side mirrors even dim at all but i'm probably wrong.) he means that the side mirrors will be hard to see through with tints since the mirrors dim. The oncoming lights would cause the mirrors to dim but the tints would make them look even dimmer.

For me, the only "must option" was not an option--manual transmision. With that, the sport package or at least the sport suspension seemed necessary--I got the MSport package because it looked cool. The metallic color, leather seats and satellite radio are nice but I don't consider them "must haves". Now that it is cold I kind of wish I had the heated seat.

I also was skeptical about the outside mirrors dimming...so I checked the ZPP on the BMW website, and low and behold they do. I learned something today.

This may be old news, but I just got off the phone with a sales manager. The N55 335 is going into production in early March, for US deliveries in late April. He speculated that BMW also moved to new vendors for the fuel system.
