What engine will LCI 335i sedan have?!?!
I just ordered an LCI 335 sedan... Will this have an N54 or N55?
If you order one in February or March, what will it have? (US buyers) When does the "2011" MY start for LCI sedans? I'm searching everywhere and I come up with conflicting info, examples: 2011 Sedans won't be on lots until fall, only coupes and convertibles will be released as 2011 models in the Spring... 2011 Sedans BUILT IN MARCH will have an N55 engine... WHAT'S HAPPENING?!? I'm so confused. I was thinking about telling my dealer to cancel my order (again..) so I could get DCT, but I don't know WHAT will get DCT and WHEN that will be...? So frustrating... |

the bottom line is I DON'T want an N55 engine. I want to tune my car and valvetronic is going to be a ROYAL pita to tune.
I dunno what's right and what's not. |

You should really ask the dealer that you ordered the car from to find the the SPECIFIC engine that is being used for your car...They should be able to find out more concrete info rather than have member here speculate..

I haven't been able to contact my dealer since I read this... That's why I asked everyone here.
I'm pretty sure the car I just ordered will have an N54, as it has a February build date. What I was trying to find out most was when will the MY 2011 Sedans be on sale and what engine will be in the them. |

honestly i'd want the n55... once you mod, you can't stop.. that's why i'd rather have a car that i can't mod so extensively like i did with my car so i wouldn't have to spend so much money on it..
but then again i should have 400whp on race gas easy with my mods (haven't dyno'ed yet)... and the car is REALLY fun to drive..

Along with that the tunning protection and power restrcition the bmw tuning is going to have might be a PITA aswell. They will not make the same mistake as they did with the N54 to put new ECU (MSD80 to MSD81) and new software to stop tuning, they will most likely go hard on the anti-tuning right off the bat. Also where the N54 has come tuning wise and the products out for it is gonna take so long for the N55!! |

ALL 1, 3, 5,7 (not 760),X5 and X6 vehicles will be 2011 models as of March. These cars can no longer be ordered as 2010s, what is on the ground is it.
The 1,3,5,X5 will have N55 as the base 35i motor. "is" gets N54 uprated in 3er. 2011 brings in brake energy regeneration as well. This is an efficiency move for future legislative reasons. N55s will have 8 speed autos in all models except the 1 which will use the 7 Speed DCT. X3 will be decommissioned this summer to make way for the new X3 this fall. Not sure what else to tell you as that should summarize everything fairly well. -M "Twin Power" will not be used by BMWWNA at anypoint.

My 2011 335xi will be ordered in Feb, produced in March for delivery in April and it will have the N55.

This N55 business is making me start considering the S4 even more now.

When was the last time BMW left you disappointed?
Seems there are lots of speculations on this new engine on this forum. When the performance numbers of the N55 finally come out, those who now continue to tout the virtues of the N54 are gonna eat their words, and those who already bought their car with the old power mill will kick themselves. So if we're gonna continue to speculate, how about some positive comments, eh folks?

Stock for stock, the N55 looks to be pretty much identical to the N54.
It's not the power numbers that bother me, but the fact that....it's all you get, with the N55. At least for a while. The N54 already has tunes for it that do some pretty amazing things.
