Anyway to avoid Ice on inside of Sunroof?
And I have tried searching as I always do, and read about the exploding sunroof issues we have and does anyone think that this would effect that issue?
I always have my cover shut cause I personally Hate sunroofs but it came with it, but Along with the front windshield water condensation on the inside I am getting it on the sunroof now too. I dont think it would hurt anything do you?

The A/C compressor is the usual route to lower humidity inside the cabin, however I beleive it will not engage when temps are below freezing. Using the heater should dry out cabin air in colder months. Is the recirc door closed? Something wet/damp in the cabin? I know Michigan gets cold, but ice on the inside has to be caused by excessive moisture from wet carpeting or an interior leak of some sort.

^^ I know of NO leaks so I am thinking I did have some snow on their for about a week just enough to cover it and it got warm enough to melt it so maybe that was the reason.
SIDE ? >> If the recirculation button is on the Automatic feature is that cool for winter use? Or should I always leave the outside air coming in and have NO light? Thanks

This has never happened to me in any car I've owned with a sunroof (3)...I would have someone look at the seal around the sunroof because something is definitely not right. You should never have ice form inside the vehicle.

I will bring it up to dealer and see what they say, BUT I can bet they will say it is normal, since the temps are different.
I am just worried about water dripping damage, it forms on my front windshield as well when there is snow on my car overnight, not that bad mind you but it still is there.

You mentioned snow on the car overnight. Are the cabin air intakes cleared of snow? If not, the system cannot draw in sufficient outside air to work properly.

You should not have this problem. Car windows are not like windows on a house. They are thicker and much better sealed. If you have frost on the inside then I'd guess it's very cold and the humidity is high. I've had this happen on cars in the past not never on my e90.

^^ HAHAHHA wishful thinking but not the issue
ElredOne: When you say cabin vents clean, do you mean the ones that come out from under the hood? Or is there another location to look for?

make sure you aren't turning off the snowflake button. when its off the humidity in the cabin is not drawn out.
Im not saying that's the solution to your problem. It may be something else.

^^ Well I asked about it today at the dealership by my house and 2 techs said to bring it in, BUT its not covered on my CPO.
1 hr minimum will be needed they said, so thats like $110. And I thought the snowflake button is for the Air Conditioner? SO pretend I am a DUMMY and tell me HOW I should SET my car for Winter weather. Like this: Auto button on + Rec button on + set my temps 74° for example and the A/C snowflake On? I usually never use auto and recently have turned OFF the Recuculation button. And have ONLY used the AC button in the Summertime. Can a PRO give me some pointers, they did tell me that the ice/water can form on inside from temp differences but it should not be that much.

Your A/C (snowflake) button should be left on year-round, no matter what climate you live in. It constantly dehumidifies the cabin-air properly. DO NOT leave the recirlculating air button on for too long; this blocks outside (fresh) air from coming in.
Honestly, unless you're a chick, all you need to do is set the auto-temp once to your liking. This keeps the A/C going most--if not all--of the time. Now we dudes know these broads have to constantly screw around with the temperature settings because women are ALWAYS either too hot or too cold, no matter where they are. (How many times have you awaken to find every fuckin' blanket on her side of bed when it's 14F degrees out? In the summer, expect the house's central air to be set at around 52F, enough to send your balls shivering and shrinking up into your stomach.) Never be angry with her. Just be sure to put everything back to normal settings once she's gone. This goes for the house and car. |

^^ is that for REAL?
So then I would do the following all year round? Auto button ON Snowflake/AC Button ON °72F (my temp setting) Auto Re-cerculating Button ON ^^ Is that the correct way and on a side note would not that waste more fuel since AC is running all the time or prematurly were it out? Thanks a TON for the help guys..

the main reason for exploding sunroofs is when people get the sunroof tinted with the wrong tint which holds the heat between the glass and tint. i dont know about ice on the sunroof, but if you are getting or had your sunroof tinted, be careful which shop does it

Just put your climate on "auto", and forget about it. You most likely had the condensation due to leaving the snow on it for a while, which I am sure doesn't happen all of the time. It sounds like a fluke thing to me. I had it happen once in my old X3 after I left snow on it with it parked for a few days, it never happened again. And always make sure your air intakes are clear of snow and you're not in "recirc" mode.

Yep that's correct. I live in the Southeast so our winters although cold (30-40's) are also damp. I have to run my A/C almost year round to get out the humidity. Although with it being down in the teens and 20's these past couple of weeks it has been so dry that I haven't had to run the A/C at all. |

^^ but the system knows when to shut off the AC on auto right? I just dont want to waste gas mileage by having the air on ALL year long.
And with Recirculate on Auto I should be ok as well? PS where are these cabin vents that people are telling me to have NO snow build up on?

Ok guys, just got back from lunch and did what you suggested.
Auto ON, Auto Recirc ON, Snowflake On So I guess I will try that for a week and see if it effects my gas mileage since now the AC will be kicking on and off where as b4 it was always OFF Thanks again
