Will "Lemon" in CA title affect car value?

Anyone have ideas on whether the car would greatly be affected if the title states Lemon due to the fuel pump? I am looking at buying a 2008 but just saw that the BMW dealer took it back as on the Lemon cars due to the fuel pump (which they replaced of course). The price is great but should I be worried?

Plan to keep the car for years....

I bought a fuel pump "lemon" from CA. When I got my GA title, I was pleased to find that it doesn't say "lemon" or "manufacturer buyback" anywhere. I've had the car for 8 months and no issues!

It will still effect resale. The buyback is plastered on both the Carfax and Autocheck reports and i don't think anybody buys a car without them.

Plus, BMW will probably tell prospective buyers the history if they go into a dealer and ask nicely.

I plan to keep the car for a long time so resale isn't a concern for me.

Absolutely.

Get a dealer service history on the car. If the only real problem is multiple HPFP problems then pick it up for a steal. HPFP is a known problem and they have a 120,000mile warranty on the pump. If you plan on keeping it for a long time, and there aren't any problems past a faulty HPFP then go for it.

If there was more to it than the pump and thats the reason it was a shop so long I would be weary. Get an accurate service history.

A car with "lemon" on the Carfax usually will take a 10% to 20% hit in resale if you trade it in.

Anyone know how I can run the vehicle history on a car using te VIN#? Do I just call BMW dealer and ask them? I tried researching on the web but didn't see how.

The local BMW dealers will run a VIN on their system and give you the maintenance history for a car you are considering buying. Helps if you actually go in and ask one of the service advisors, rather than just calling.

Then there is Carfax, of course.

Absolutely!. Never buy a car with a lemon title unless you are paying for a huge discount. That will be tied to the car for its life.
