Mexico
Anyone been to the Caribbean coast of Mexico - most specifically, has anyone had experience of Moon Palace Golf & Spa resort? What's Mexico like in May (weather etc)?
We're trying to decide on our summer holiday this year (in May!) and feel like doing a beach all-inclusive type holiday! I've never been to Mexico and if theres one place I should get Corona to drink and Fajita's to eat as part of an all-inc deal, Mexico should be it! For me, that a good enough reason to go! The resort looks fantastic and Thomas Cook have got a deal on until tomorrow making the holiday a lot cheaper than usual - like £300 cheaper EACH! Any opinions or advice greatly received. |

I normally take a look at Tripadvisor.
Gets favourable reviews - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_R...Peninsula.html

I have specifically been to the Moon Palace, albeit 9 years ago. The hotel is very nice (European 4* I'd say) and the food / drink is excellent, not like "all inclusive" in European resorts; it's proper food and drink with some very good restaurants.
Try and get a room away from the water de-salination plant because it stinks. Downside is that my wife and I prefer to explore a bit on our own and outside the resort there is nothing for miles. Hiring a car looked like a good way to commit suicide and so we got bored after a while. However, it depends what kind of holiday you like. As for the hotel, we couldn't fault it - but I don't know if it's changed much since we went. We went last week May / first week June and it was very hot.

I went to mexico in 98 and we looked at the moon palace as is billed as the dogs. However as Xenon rightly says you are in the middle of nowhere, we ended up staying in Cancoon and having a proper holiday, masses of nightlife, fantastic food and the most beautiful white beach, i really cant fault it. Id go again at the drop of a hat but it was with an ex bird so now my mrs has totally banned it. women eh???????

Right, I've just booked the Moon Palace and, following your feedback Xenon, I decided to pay the reasonable £75 (!!) extra to upgrade my room to a Superior Ocean View...which hopefully means I am nowhere near the said water de-salination plant!
Even with this upgrade it was under a grand each - not bad for a 4-5 star all-inc deal. One of my friends recently had his honeymoon at a different 'Palace' resort and said the food and drink were exceptional - I do hope it is better than the only other all-inc that I've ever stayed at which was in Cape Verde It was appalling! |

Sounds like your going to some fancy place or something, but when I visited mexico I hated it. Horrible people, scary places and I refuse to ever go back. I assume its different at a decent resort.

I hope you have a good time - the food and drink were excellent quality when we went (premium spirits and beers) and there's plenty to do in a week.
Oh, and you get a huge jacuzzi in the room you can almost swim in. The superior rooms have (had) a well-stocked minibar too.
