Just picked up from service
I gave my 335i in for service for 3 reasons but OBVIOUSLY the main reason being stuttered starts indicating a fore-coming HPFP failure. Additionally, I had vertical distortion on my screen so I was looking to get it replaced. And finally my driver side tweeter kept falling off so wanted to get that fixed.
Background: Just bought a CPO '08 335i in November with 9500 miles fully loaded. Records indicate the HPFP had already been replaced at 6500 miles. When picking up the car after service, I was told I got a brand new HPFP and the reason they took a whole 2 days was because they were "working" with BMW to correct the issue so it does not happen again. To my surprise it was not a NEW part, it was still the 881. I thought they were shipping the 943 starting the new year? He also mentioned that this only happens in the USA because of the ethanol content in our gasoline. He specifically stated that european owners do not have this problem I was very wary when he said this and argued that "isnt it BMW's responsibility to test a vehicle on AMERICAN gasoline before releasing it in America?" He responded with a dumb shrug. On a good note, they did replace my whole CID screen (~$2k) and ordered a new tweeter housing. But seriously BMW, why even put these crappy 881's in when they are just set up for failure sooner or later? If it happens the 3rd time, am I qualified for NY state lemon law? |

From what I've read concerning the new & replacement HPFP replacement parts .......... the newest version (943) will be released as replacements once the existing parts (881) have been depleted.
