I've been considering buying the iPod adapter to allow my steering wheel controls to work with my iPod - but without navigation - it's a very tiny screen and difficult to work with. I'm thinking maybe I'll just go with this Clarion stereo with GPS navigation. I'd rather not change anything to do with the Logic7 stuff if I don't have to. The stereo sounds fine as it is..

Any thoughts?

Yupp. You need an optical output from the HU. Even then you need that output to be the same plug as the L7 amp. You could get that HU and replace the amp though to like a PDX? or whatever people are using and drive the factory speakers with that. There's allot of info on the forums about the PDX.
