Exclamation BMW ///M1 gets official green light by M division!

Dunno how many of you wander over to 1addicts or check the homepage but the BMW M1 is coming!!

details : http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337931

Now that's an M that should be made, instead of SUV M models.

The success has yet to be seen. If they keep it under 3,000, atleast 380hp, and a mechanical lsd then it would be sick.

M1 for the name = bad, bad, BAD idea, since they already used that moniker for something dramatically different.

Additionally, not sure how competitive their current estimated pricing structure is, either.

Based on their estimates, the 'M1' will be priced in the mid to high 50's, and that doesn't account for options. The M3 Sedan and Coupe (not the Vert) are priced in that range.

BMW is taking a WRONG turn right now introducing WAY too many models.

The GT is completely fail, just like the X6.

I think this idea isnt as bad as the previous two but I guess we will see. I HOPE they make only like 500 and make it ultra exclusive.

BMW is making the right decisions for economy of scale reasons. Otherwise they would be out of business by now.

The GT is selling well and is designed for a certain market. It actually is a great product but most don't "get it" because of the fact it is not the norm.

It offers more practicality than a 7 with the added benefits of an SUV without all the height. Having driven 1 for 2k miles- I can honestly say my wife will get one, and you can't tell me I don't know cars or BMWs.

Most people do not look at the big picture of things and really don't get how products are made, designed and why certain products are brought to market. Every product has a break even point (recoup development/marketing) and then a sustainable profit range- if it is cheap to develop (shared architecture) and there is a market then you bring it to market- it is that simple. Why everything is not for everyone, something is for someone. If they sell 10 and the first 5 made it a break even deal, it was successful

It says the M1 moniker is still in debate, so the name is still to be determined, but realistically speaking, I'm not surprised that the M team would eventually build a top end version of the 1er. I wish they would use a different name instead of M1, but most of the younger members and customers likely have no idea what the original M1 was anyway. In time, an M7 will come to market also. My guess would be a year or two after the new M1 hits production.

As much as people complain about cars like the X5/X6 M, BMW is still a business, and in the end, demand and competition will drive what the company produces. Do you seriously think BMW will simply concede defeat in market shares where customers are shopping around for the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG? Not likely.

Uh... you do realize that the 4-seat configuration is only available if you specifically order the Luxury Rear Seating Package, right?

Otherwise, the 5er GT is a car that offers most of the utility of the 5er estate (wagon), while providing some of the aesthetics of a traditional saloon (sedan). Again, it's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean the car is useless.
