Tire blowout on loaner
Sooo... long story short, I had a blowout on my loaner X3. If you get a flat tire in a loaner, do they make you pay for it or does it fall under wear and tear? Or.....? Anyone had this issue before?

I would think that it's your fault because they can claim that it is your responsibility to check the car etc... just like if there was a scratch on that you didn't cause, but didn't catch before taking the car out...

But it's not like the loaner had a blown tire before he accepted it.

I ask the questions you're afraid to ask.

The loaner didn't come with a flat tire - it happened during driving. Unless there is evidence of abuse you should be fine. Just contact the dealer immediately and you'll probably be instructed to contact roadside assistance. |

We changed the tire and brought it to the shop at my buddy's house. It was like midnight. I'll send the dealer an email, thanks. And I'm pretty sure there's no evidence left. The vehicle washed up nicely.

Yeah, it says you're responsible for any damage. I just don't know if damage includes tires or if that's under normal wear and tear...

Nope, called the dealer. My responsibility. I'm gonna be out $200 for a tire and hopefully that's all.

Damage to loaners can be tricky. I had a 550 loaner and was driving on Route 78 when someone threw a large rock from an overpass onto the windshield. Yes. it almost completely shattered. The 550 was the service director's car who gave it to me to use since there were no loaners available. My relationship with the dealership had always been very professional and overall positive.
I returned the car the next day with all intentions of paying for the damage via my insurance company. To my surprise, the service director said to not worry as they will take care of it. Difeo BMW - now called BMW of Tenafly. I was very impressed. Mark |

There are a ton of terms on the BMW loaner contract...it's pretty formal, no different than a Hertz or Avis. But what irony, you got the $390 tire protection on your own car say and you're protected, but the tire blows out on the loaner. I'm sure the dealership charges what over $450 for a RFT?
But if you can mount a used Lexington ES335 or a Nanking with a buddy's machine and static balance, it's not so bad! http://www.mastercrafttires.com/html...xington_ES_335 |

Well, went to the dealer to get my 330i back and turn in the X3. That was fun. My car ended up not being done so they put me in a rental Expedition so for $15 they said no matter what happens, no questions asked
Bought them a new tire and apologized. (I really didn't mean to beat it up so bad) So lesson learned: Tires are not covered. PM me if you wanna see a cool video haha!

Seriously, unless they can prove you intentionally damage the tire, thats kind of bull. I understand they are trying to protect themselves, but we all have nothing better to do then to try and mess with loaner car tires
If you rolled in there with the rears as bald as george foreman, sure. But clearly this was an accident. Bummer man! |

The video of the incident it's self has not been edited up yet but there's a short clip on youtube from the very start of our night. I'm glad a tire is the only thing I had to pay for...
I cannot post the vid here for fear of self-incrimination

yep yep, you have to pay for the tires. It sucks but 99% of the loaners are under 12k in miles. Theoretically, the dealers' tire should be in good order. I said theoretically.
