Cool 330xi vs Maxima 3.5se

It was Late around 2 am on Queens Blvd and i was going about 50mph since the street was empty then it started all started at a red light and next to me in red corner the contender the black 3.5 maxima we looked a each other and we both knew what was about to happen so I instantly reved my engine and his reaction was the same probably finding me a threat ... i lowered my music and then my window telling him TO THE SECOND RED LIGHT he agreed.. so it was back to staring at the red light waiting for it to shine green and once it did it was a loud message GO. So i let it rip Leaving him at the line and Giving me no sign of gain after repeated looking in my reariew mirror i was more relaxed with my kool-aide smile

no need to type in caps, I'm not blind
so you shift your gear into neutral to rave your engine, then shift back to D

All newer model Maximas are 3.5 liter V6's.

Maximas are faster than the 330i. Especially if you own an automatic. Let alone the fact that you have an xi.

Those Maximas do 0-60 in under 6 seconds according to manufacturer and mags. Also, when I did have my 330i I had a buddy with a 05' Max. We tested both of ours out and even with me power braking, he still got me up to 60.

The driver of the other Maxima probably was driving a manual (SE's come in both auto and manual, where SL's come in Auto only). He probably also did not shift accordingly to take advantage of his faster engine.

I have a buddy with an altima, same basic car as the maxima and it has too much HP for a front driver

if you floor the gas, the tires just spin and squeal and burnout like crazy

I would imagine it's tough to get a good launch in those cars

Joy is not hating, newbie

if you do the math, the maxima actually has a slight advantage over your car

330xi's weight is 3627 lbs vs maxima's 3591lbs
and your car's got 220 tq vs maxima's 252 tq

but that's beside the point, street racing is not condoned here

If I had to choose between altima and maxima, I'd pick altima, similar dimension, same equipment, less $$$, and both looks the same to me (not particularly attractive, but passable)

I was not hating. If I was I would not have owned a 330i before that and would still not have owned an X5 4.8is right now. I could have easily gotten an jeep str8 and blown the doors off my double the price 4.8is. But I didn't.

I'm just stating the facts, and the facts are that away from mag racing (they can range times by up to 2 full seconds if you look around), I'm calling real world experience with my own car that I owned along with a newer model Maxima.

^ I'd imagine the X5 4.8 would fare pretty well against the Jeep SRT8, no?

I never race (cuz I know i will loose with the 330i manual - cuz i've only driven manual for 1.5 consecutive years). But just lookig at maxima, I will take a wild guess that it should beat my 255 hp 330i. It has quad exhausts too.

And to think Nissan takes the same 3.5 liters, changes the engine software, a few pieces of hardware and BAM! you got a 300 hp G35.

No one is saying it wasn't true. I believe that what everyone is saying is that if you line up a 330xi and a Max and put good drivers in both then odds are that the Max would be quicker to the next light. That doesn't mean that in this instance that isn't what happened. You really never know how seriously the other driver was at racing you. I would guess that if he was that much slower that you could see him in your rear-view mirror then either he wasn't much of a driver or he was more interested in seeing you make a fool of yourself then racing you.

I don't think that the Max is a piece of crap. While it definately isn't geared towards the same market at those people buying 3 series cars, it is a better ride than many of it's direct competitors.
