Service interval changes

I just noticed this today -- my oil change interval, which used to be at 15,000 miles and dropped to 13,000 miles a while ago, has now fallen to 12,000 miles. Is my car trying to tell me I'm driving too hard?

I make a trip to the redline at most once every week or two, but I do tend to cruise in the 85-90mph range on the freeway. anyone else have this happen?

That's how it works. It shows how much is left to your oil change. The more you drive the less mileage is remaining.

Doesn't the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit . . . unnatural? Support NORML

The $90 is actually pretty reasonable. It'll take like 7.5-8 quarts of full synthetic which is almost $50 by itself.

I changed my oil today at 4000 miles. No way I'm going to wait until the 14,000 mile mark as suggested by the on board computer [shudder].

Yep, condition-based service interval.

Supposed to be based on amount of fuel consumed, approx 660 litres, before the next "free" oil change while under warranty.

Makes perfect sense: the harder you drive or the further you drive, you'll need the oil change sooner.

However, even though the synthetic oil may last that long, many don't believe the oil filter will be able to do its job for that long.

Dude, that's not oil change interval, but the number of miles left before the oil change. Until it drops within 200 miles, dealer will change it. However, I suggest that you change oil at least 1 time in between the preset mileages (15kmiles - 20kmiles...wtf?).
