For the love of gahd, how to you get the H7's out of the BIX housing?!?!

Original thread here but the info is pretty sketchy.

Anybody done this themselves?

I yanked the wheel well liner last night and went to town. Everything's easy to get to by the H7 DRL/Flasher bulb. Anybody know how to get that out?

I yanked out the blank plastic stick plug, then spent about 30min with needlenose pliers trying to gank it out and it wouldn't budge. Then I spent another hour trying to blinding get the stick plug back on the bulb. So frustrating.

If somebody who has actually done this successfully can chime in I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

bump for me because I'm going to be in there again tonight.

Does anybody at least have pictures of the back of the BIX housing when they had it out of the car?

Yup, inner high beam/DRL bulb.

Problem is, with the BIX housing, the plug is this long plastic stick and without the entire headlight assembly out we can't see how to get the bulb to release from the socket.

Not sure I've got the balls to pull the whole bumper just to pop the headlight assembly off just to get to the high beam/drl bulb.

Did you happen to notice how it goes in the socket when you had the headlights off?

Then you should buy something that requires taking the bumper off and you will be killing to birds with one stone kind of lol

You are supposed to press the black stick upwards/downwards ( cant remember which one) slightly and then pull it out with the bulb attached.

Seems like you pulled the black stick out without the bulb

Pushing the stick upwards/downwards unclips the bulb

Mauybe you can try and stick it back in and get it to clip onto the bulb again

I'll give it a try ... I tried up, down, twist, angle everything and it wouldn't budge. If I figure it out, I'll repost here though.

Ended up being a lot easier than it seemed like it should be. This,

is exactly how you get them out.

Secret is, get your finger underneath the stick and pry UP. It'll almost feel/sound like something's breaking (metal on metal grating noise) and it'll pop right out. Getting it back in takes a little bit of patience, but it's the reverse of taking them out. Make sure tab is at the top, put in angle down and click back in. It'll go in with less force than it came out so don't be alarmed when it just pops in.

You pretty much *have* to have the wheel liner off to do the driver's side, just to get the cover off. There's enough room to swap bulbs from the top.

No pics, couldn't really get any.

Okay, you got the stick plug right? Don't pull on it, don't even squeeze it between your fingers. I couldn't get enough leverage on it by squeezing the end and pulling up on it.

Instead, if you you're looking down at the housing from the front of the car, I put my finger as far up and underneath the stick plug as I could get, and pulled up; prying the stick plug up. It'll make a metal on metal scraping noise and then *ping* it'll pop right out. If you feel the plug slipping on the bulb prongs, stop. You should easily get the bulb to pop out still attached to the plug.

It still won't feel like you can pull it out because there's a wire running across the top of the opening that you get snagged on. But look at the bulb from the front of the car and you can see that it's loose now.

One thing that surprised me was that the new bulbs went in with a lot less force than the oem bulbs took to get out. I kept thinking that they weren't seated properly. But they're in there and seated fine.

Oh, you can easily get this done without removing the fender liner on the passenger side as long as you can get the cover popped off the headlight. On the driver's side, I was able to get the plug un-seated without removing the airbox but I didn't have enough room to pull it out from up top. My hands are too big. But technically, as long as you could figure out how to get the cover off through the access panel you wouldn't have to remove the fender liner entirely.
