E90 330i Sport Package on Snow
I wonder how the E90 330i sport package will handle in a snowy / wet condition? it snows a bit around here and I am concerned! Maybe I should get different tires than the OEM run flats? Any thoughts?
Thanks, Liverpoolfc YNWA |

I didn't get the sport package especially for the same reason. I am thinking about getting snow tires in the winter or just drive the X5 if I am home.

Here in Chicago, I was flat out told by a salesman not to drive with performance tires on snow. He advised against getting the sport package, unless I was willing to change to snow tires every winter.
I really like the sport steering wheel and the sport seats, but it is just not practical for me to switch tires twice a year. I would have gotten the sport package if they came with all season tires or if I lived in Florida or California. |

I don't think you should get the sport package if you intend to drive it on snow unless someone else can prove me wrong.

Order the 330XI with sport package. The seats and steering wheel from the regular sport package are included but the wheels and tires remain the same for the XI package.

if you are getting snow tires then the sports package wont be a problem in the snow. I've been driving around the last 3 winters with my car on coilover suspension at almost a full low setting with snow tires and it was fine, i felt safer in it then my parents SUV. Snow tires make a WORLD of a difference

Are you running the sport size wheels, or the stock size set up?
I need to plan for the winter, and am wondering which size to go for. |

I'm of the school of thought that even a budget set of dedicated winter tires will give you better snow/slush traction compared to high-end all season tires.
JVFan, have you ordered any winter tires to go with those rims? I have a 330i Sport on order and I've been looking endlessly for runflat winter tires (to mount on steelies). Got any suggestions? |

You bet buddy. www.tiretrends.com
I got the Dunlops mounted on the rims shipping and taxes for 1900. They are very easy to deal with and the tires/rims are waiting for my car to arrive.....I gotta get the little roundels to stick to the centre caps and b/c they are M5 replicas. There is even a little spot for the M decal on the wheel. |

I see that you are in the DC area, not sure how long you've lived in the area?
I've been around for over 10 years now - winters here are hard to predict since this area is usually on the snow/mix/rain borderline. Recent years have been fairly mild, while other years there have been a couple of big storms. So the investment could be hit or miss. Last year it didn't snow much at all, maybe only 5-10 days where your winter set will have come into play. Rarely would you regularly deal with snow packed roads, but it can depend on where you are as to how good your roads get treated. The DC area is notorious for shutting down for minimal amounts of snow, so you may not have to venture out if it does end up storming. I recently purchased, and just kept my old car just in case of a few snow days. I don't think its worth it around here; but I could be wrong and we get 10ft of snow this year |

I ordered my 330i with the sport package and I am not worried about the MD/DC/VA winter has in store. As Mr.X said above, the winters here are usually not that bad and when the weather is bad everything is closed. So, if you are like me and have another car or SUV don't worry about it. Go with the 330i and not the xi. You'll be fine.
