Question: Badge Shaving
I have used the search option, and today went to go remove the badge of my 335. I used a hair dryer and dental floss like instructed, but it seems like there is an awful amount of glue adhesive still on there.
I was told i could use water and alcohol, but i really dont want to put alcohol on the paint of a one day old car. I would rather do this, but want to be assured that the alcohol wouldn't hurt the paint. I was also told goo gone works well... Any suggestions or tips i could get from people that have already debadged? I want to get the badge off by 6pm, so the sun will be perfect for the pictures of my car! so please fellow enthusiasts, help me quiick so i can make this happen for my photoshoot tonight.. and yes i will post the pics tonight. |

its just the residue left? Goto the store and buy "Goo Gone". Its a citrus liquid that is safe to use on your paint.. it will come off pretty easily with a cloth. You can buy it at a pharmacy or a walmart.
Just a sidenote.. why take off the 335I badge? The car has only been out for what? 30 days? No one even knows what the car is yet let alone twin turbo. I was in a honda dealer with my sis getting her an accord and all the sales guys were around my 335.. I walked out to put my sunglasses in and their all like "this look sick! is it fast?" When I told them it was twin turbo the general manager looked at me and started laughing and shaking his head at me telling me "no sir.. not in a bimmer". He went on to tell me how he drives a 7 series and he knows a lot about BMW and that is I really thought it was a twin turbo that I got "hosed"... Needless to say I got a good laugh out of it

Definitely go with the goo gone. Will make the hassle of take the residue of much easier. Soak with goo gone, let it sit for 30 seconds, then just use your fingers to remove the left over residue.

Best bet, get out a good paint cleaner like Zymol HDCleanse or similar product (I think there are some other good brands other members have suggested), heat the sticky-stuff up with a hair dryer (but not too hot), and gently apply the cleaner with your hands. Rub with your hands so you don't put abbraisons in the fresh paint with a rag. Hope that helps!

With the dual exhaust it looks more balanced without it. If I had an E92 335i I would debadge it.

I debadged my 335 and it looks much better.
I just used floss (no hair dryer) and my finger to peel off the crap. No problems either way.

So ya, go ahead and use Goo Gone, it's good to have around anyway; I just wanted to clear up the alcohol thing. (fwiw, goo gone has alcohol *and* petroleum byproducts in it, and it's a solvent, same as alcohol , this will not hurt the paint either as long as it does not sit on the paint) |

blow dryer for about 1 minute..braided dental floss to remove the number/letter...the remaining sticky stuff peeled off pretty clean....repeat on each letter/number.....
(took me about 15 minutes) i used a spray of tar/bug remover on towel to wipe off any residue...and damp towel to clean.....didn't even need to wax...all looked fine... .... |

Goo GOne. Doesn't hurt your car in the least.
Just don't take out your contact lenses out after until you have washed your hands a million times

Old post and question, but for new debadgers, just use some polish to get rid of any remaining outline of the numbers. Unless there's considerable fading of the paint it should disappear.
