Winter setup
Closing in on a 328Xi sedan with sport package, I understand the sport package in Canada (17") comes with performance tires and staggered setup.
225/45/17 front 255/40/17/rear If I take delivery of the car, it will be winter here. So I plan to buy winter tires. I currently have 225/45/17 tires from my car now, can I use that instead? I understand the TPMS should be installed as well. Please enlighten me |

u want bigger sidewalls 50-55... and u want narrow tires (205-215) for winter setup..
since u have Xi, any decent winter tires with xi and proper driving should get you through just about any weather |

If the vehicle has metal valve stems, then it does use the TPMS system. If it has rubber valve stems, then it does not.
Eliminating the stagger in this way works very well for winter and results in better winter traction. Winter http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&...nter/index.jsp

I don't think that you get staggered tires with the xi. I could be wrong though.

You can definitely use staggered tires for Xi, as long as the difference in diameter is less than 1%.
Nonetheless for winter tire it is kind of pointless to go staggered. The whole idea of staggering is to reduce oversteer in high speed cornering, and you do not usually do high speed corning on winter tires. Besides, using extra wide tires on the driving wheels compromises traction on snow.
