my car is dead.

so i was driving home, and my car overheated 150 miles from my house. it went into limp mode but i had to drive quite a while to a safe place to stop.

warped head or cracked head?

why did my car overheat?

where did my coolant go?

do you think it was an error when i had the head replaced due to ticking valves?

I would think the head replacement is a likely culprit. If they torqued the head bolts incorrectly they could warp the head or pinch the gasket, causing it to blow in short order. I'm sure you'll just have it towed to the dealer but if you feel like sleuthing yourself you could check for milky deposits under the oil cap, white smoke from exhaust, obviously less coolant than you had before. All signs of a blown gasket. If the gasket isn't the reason, there are quite a few other reasons if could overheat. Air in the coolant system, bad thermostat, malfunctioning cooling fan. Are you under warranty (I hope)?

yes, but the sensor is fucked. it always says there is plenty, a quart low, plenty, etc.

i have the bmw performance exhaust so SOMETIMES i notice a bit of smoke. nothing major causing concern. no white milky residue in the cap, and yes, im under warranty.

thanks!

not sure..but since the car has an electric waterpump instead of a belt driven one theres quite a few safety things that happen..ie the car is very sensative to temp so any bit of overheat it usually goes into limp..
