Rumble/Drone from Hankook Icebear w300
I just put on my winter setup (e92 328xi) - they are used Hankook Icebear w300s on staggered 18s, but appear to have worn evenly and have at least another season left in them. I am noticing an intermittent low-frequency rumble/drone from the rear of the vehicle at 50+ mph. It seems to be worst between 60-70mph. (It's not horrible - just sounds like all of a sudden I have a performance exhaust on the car, but definitely wasn't there with my summers or apparent at slower speeds). It does come and go a bit depending upon the pavement, steering angle, etc. I do not notice any vibrations in the steering or chassis.
Has anyone else experienced this with these tires? Could it be that possibly one of my rear tires is out of balance and causing the noise without noticeable vibration? Or is this normal (BMW noob here!)? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

The tread pattern has probably "feathered" just right to induce low frequency vibrations at that particular speed range. I had a similar thing happen with my Falken FK-452s.

I was actually wondering if that might be the case. (Possibly the previous owner had them mounted on the other side of the car, so rotating the other direction)
Did the noise disappear as the tires continued to wear? |
