225 45 18 Dunlop Wintersports

I just bought my wife a 328xi coupe here in frigid MN and my brother has an extra set of Dunlop Wintersport M3's i can have. 225 45/18

I checked the tire calculator and it looks like there is a 1" total difference in height. (1/2" on either side)

Should I consider buying a set of 18 winter wheels for these tires just forget about the free tires??

thanks
Kevin

Your speedo will read 2mph slower.
You don't need 225/40s, but that would be the right size.

You can use either 225/40R18 or 235/40R18 on all four corners for winter use with no problem. 225/45R18 is a bit tall and may rub after snow is packed into the tires.

Use the set from your brother and buy cheap 18" rims. You can't get it cheaper than that. Don't worry the bigger tire, it will work fine.
