block of wood and a big hammer. put the wood against the inside of the wheel and hit it hard just watch the wheel dosen't come off too quick and hit the ground
clean up the hub and copper grease it before refitting.

It's the lip of the hub/wheel that rusts, you need to have a rocking motion, say 12 o'clock, then 6 o'clock, back and forth, then 9 and 3, etc. Don't just bang away even with a rubber mallet, rock the wheel back and forth and it will come unstuck. I hope mine come off when I put the snows on, as I bought the anti-seize after I put them back on...good luck!

I have heard some people say to loosen the lugs a little and then drive the car just a bit (couple of feet) and brake hard. Apparently that does it. Not sure how safe that is...

I would not do it. I am sure it would work but these cars are not designed to have that much pressure on the lug bolts so it may stress them too much. The safety issue could be unseen damage to the lug bolts making them weaker.

Kick the tire with the sole of your shoe, a nice sidekick. It's common practice and no it won't hurt you or anything on the car, just use common sense and don't give it a kick from hell... a piece of wood and mallet may damage your low profile tires and rims, I guess you could wrap the wood in cloth, but seriously just kick it.

Kicking some times works, try a mallet/sledge with a block of wood after that. If you look it up using google, they suggest putting the lug nuts/bolts on finger tight, then back them out 1/2 to 1 turn...proceed to drive around the block and you should hear it break free. Once you hear it break free, immediately stop the car, retorque, and return home to take the wheel off.
However, my gf's car has the rear wheels stuck on and neither of these ways has helped to get them off. Good luck! -Jeff

Loosen all the lugs about 3 turns from snug. Then let the jack down and put the weight of the car back on the tire. Pops almost every time, no kicking or potential destruction involved.
Spray some anti-corroding stuff on the hub to save the aggravation next time around.

I kicked mine when I swapped my tires the first time and it was a PITA. Since then, I've swapped my tires 5 more times (winter-summer-winter...) with no kicking, just a gentle rocking back and forth to get them off. Anti-seize on the hubs is your friend.
