Oil Change Question

Sorry if this is a re-post...

My car sounds and feels like crap right now and I feel like I need an oil change. If I get an oil change on my own, would it reset the mileage left for my free oil maintenance at the dealer?

I have 12,000 miles and the on-board computer says i have 7,000 miles left for my next oil change. 19,000 miles unitl my first oil change?? is that okay?

Thanks in advance for your help.

No just remind them not to re-set it.

In fact my SA told me that they would not re-set it.

Just change it yourself,it's rather easy.

Mobil 1 5W30 is a good choice.

Only the dealer can do the reset, and you can ask them not to.

If you want to use a oil not approved by BMW and one that generally runs a bit too thin on the 30 weight side. This has been discussed endlessly but once again...BMW 5w30, Mobil 0w40 and Castrol 0w30 are all approved.

LOL,,,,

Your kidding right? Not recommended for the E90?

Have you even read the E90's owners manual or called BMW NA?

The R6 is an all new design and does not require an A3 or a LL-01 rated oil. It's not even mentioned in the manuals!

BMW has not come out with a new oil rating since LL-01 (besides LL-04 which is for diesels with particulate filters) thus `01 and newer BMW's (minus M cars) are still required LL-01 oil under warranty.

PEOPLE. if your oil change indicator read ANYTHING more than a total of 16000 miles between oil changes GO TO THE DEALER AND COMPLAIN. it's supposed to be 15-16000 between changes, not 19000! we have a programming fix for that!

FIX IT! you're getting screwed out of free oil if you do NOT!

I hope you won't go back to this topic again. It's been discussed. Read your manual again because I saw Mobil1 5W30 is recommended in there and don't even say US mobil1 5W30 is not approved or whatever. The manual is the US version and it says Mobil1 5W30.

There is more than one version of Mobil 1 5W-30, one of which is LL-04 approved. The problem is that is you are going to have a hard time finding it.

Same thing happening to me... it said oil change at 10,000 then went to 12,000 then to 19,000 and now its at 20,000....

So i figured I would just go do it myself... Bleh~

Hopefully I didn't ruin my car too much...

Good to know that people actually read the manual as well!

Show me where BMW NA states this.

The E90's owners manual STRONGLY RECOMMENDS M1 5W30 and makes ZERO MENTION OF THE LL-01 SPEC as does BMW NA.
