Sirius Module Install Hours?!
I'm trying to retrofit my 2009 335i (satellite pre-wired) sedan with the Sirius module. I plan on buying it from Circle or Tischer, since most of the dealers in South Florida all want close to $575.
The biggest problem I'm having now is, all of the dealers here claim that the install/programming requires 3.0 hours of labor (approx $360), but from what I've read here, it should be closer to 1.0 - 1.5 hours. I've used the BMW Sirius install document as proof to them that I know for a fact it takes no more than 1.5 hours, but they don't give a s**t that I know. They just give me some lame excuse and stand firm at 3.0 hours, knowing they're robbing me. Do I have any other avenues on the install? (Other than doing it myself.) Thanks for any feedback in advance... |

Try another dealer. The most challenging part of the actual installation is figuring out which fiber cables to shift to at the MOST bus block. If you can do that and feel with a high degree of certainty that you're correct, the only thing the dealer needs to do is to code the module. With a competent technician, that should just take a few minutes. GL.

I was charged $585 for the unit by the dealer after buying my 335i, but they did not charge me for the labor. Others have paid as much as $1,020 w/labor and some as low as $300 and change with labor. It depends if you can negociate a deal with them after purchasing your car (talk to your original salesmen, not the parts department people.)
They did mention that it would be 3 hours of work. That included an hour for installation and two hours to program the iDrive system for XM-Satellite and verify that the system is working properly (including a test drive confirmation, etc.) If you don't have iDrive, it should not take long for a professional installation. |

My dealer charged me 1 hour of labor for programming and I did the install myself.
Since the car took a full upgrade is actually took close to 4, but I cannot believe that anyone can charge more that 1 hour of labor to plug in the car and hit the button. Labor charges for "programming" (see plug it in and enter the option codes the walk away) are a complete rip off scam. |

I just checked the latest retrofit notice and it stated that the retrofit should take ~1 hour in an E9x.

I know the labor is 1.0 - 1.5 hrs... unfortunately, the dealers don't seem to care and insist on billing for 2.5 - 3.0 hours. They're total scammers.
Thanks for the replies though. |

Can you post the part number from Tischer or Circle? I am in the market for one as well, however I emailed Tischer and was told that the module was on back order or something of that sort. |

I just had this done as South BMW. Just go to the BMW website and look for tech. upgrades for your car - you will get a price for install and parts for your year and car model.
Then go you your dealer's website and do the same thing - you will get a price quote that is a bit lower than if you walked in and asked at the "boutique". So, that quote form the dealer website will be about $748 w/o tax, but that's parts and install labor. Simply take this quote to you SA, and say if you can put this in, then I will pay. From what I have read here, and heard, it takes max 1.5 hrs to do the install. What takes time is the software upgrade, but that can take a long time - not labor intensive, but this download can take hrs in the worst case. Please, jut double check the dealer gets the correct parts ordered. And then you cool. All the best |
