Z4M Angel Eye Bulb Replacement?

Just found that one of my angel eyes is out.

Has anyone changed the bulbs for the inboard angel eyes? I haven't found a DIY or part number anywhere online.

Thanks!

Just out of warranty here. I think I found the part number though, can anyone confirm that the following is the correct part?

I'd ask the dealership for verification; but looks about right - that PN is #15 on this pic.

apexstrafer, could u post details n a pic of the replacement bulb b4 it goes in? I'm wondering whether it could be replaced with a SMD LED to make the angel eye brighter... similar to what PIAA etc have for other BMWs with factory AEs...

That looks like it would fit. Here's some details on the bulb that goes in there:

You'd need to cut apart the "socket" that the factory bulb comes in to replace it with an LED. I easily did so with a Dremel.

My only concern would be that anything other than a 12v 10w bulb would trip the warning light on the dash and/or blow a fuse.

Cool, let us know how it works, I'd love to have a set of brighter angel eyes too.

Are you saying the OEM bulb is not designed to be replaced? Seems silly as it appears to be a filament bulb so obviously will periodically die. Does BMW expect you to buy the entire assembly with the bulb in place every time it dies?

Yes and yes. The "bulb assembly socket" from BMW is $50 while bulb itself is available online for less than $6.

I have pictures of the parts at home, I'll post them later.

I tried to replace mine with LED bulbs, and it still tripped the error light. I bought error free bulbs too

For the bulb in that link it says the "average lifetime" is 240 hours. That isn't very long(10 days) considering Z4's use the angel eyes as DRL's. I would assume the BMW bulb is longer lasting...

If mine die out in an unreasonably short time, I'll let you guys know. They're still kicking though and it's been almost a month.

Sorry about the lack of pics as promised, I meant to get some the other day. It really is a simple job though.

Ended up using the Ushio bulb in that link. Paying 10x as much for the BMW part when all I needed was the bulb didn't sit well with me.

Yes. It's easy to modify the socket.

Socket with bulb 63 12 7 170 858 is $26.09 from North Haven.

From what I have read, the inner lamp is a dummy, and there is only 1 angel eye in each headlamp assembly. I have the Bi-Zenon lights and that is the way they are set up.

Anyone try sourcing some BA9S LED bulbs from Ebay? I came across a few but not sure if these would directly plug in without having to modify anything. Having the error code on the dash wouldn't really be a biggie either.
