2007 Models have Temp Guage instead of MPG

Anyone notice this? even on the sedans..

I would love to have the temp guage, but i know it will be $$$$ to swap out the instrument cluster.

I'd rather have a temp gauge too.

Thanks. I had been wondering about that. Honestly, I don't care about the temperature gauge...the idiot light will come on long before the engine gets damaged by an overheat. I'd rather have the instant mileage gauge. It's fun to see how good gas mileage you're getting. But I'm probably in the minority on that one...

Personally I hate the MPG gauge.

First, the trip computer is far more accurate, provides three distinct metrics [use, efficiency, and range], and it doesn't annoy me with that constant bobbing from side-to-side.

Second, the MPG gauge is completely superfluous thus entirely useless. When the car is in park and idling it is getting its absolute worst MPG - which is '0' MPG, yet that stupid gauge registers as if the car was getting 60 MPG.

Any gauge that can't register the difference between '0' MPG and '60' MPG is useless in my book.

Hopefully the new temp gauge is not of the GM/Ford variety that only registers three ranges [hot, normal, cold] but instead registers actuall temps.

Even though it dosn't have the MPG gauge the trip computer still gives you MPG, so what is any really losing out on with the gauge switch?

the reasons behind the lack of a temp gauge on the E90s has been discussed a million times.

Basically, the E90 didn't get the temp gauge because the engine runs at different temperatures while in operation. It was thought that this would create confusion on the part of the customers, and so was left out of the car.

The 328 uses a variation of the N52 engine, so it doesn't get the temp gauge. The 335i uses a different engine, so it can have the gauge.

I'm basing this off of what I read from our resident E90 expert, E90Fleet. If I'm missing parts, hopefully he'll correct it.

In this country "White's Only" was also once a tradition - the point being that sometimes it is best for "traditions" to die rather than to linger on simply for their own sake [see: Jaguar's 'J'-gate shifter].

Also it was BMW's "tradition" to place a MPG gauge under the tach in addition to separate fuel and temp gauges - not instead of.

oil temp gauge is useless in tropics? It is especially worth it in hot climate regions.
we are not talking about regular temperature gauge that shows you how hot it is outside.

I don't know how anyone can get any use out of that thing, unless you're on the highway it's just constantly jumping all over the place.
