JL 12W6 vs. JL 12W7?

I am thinking about getting a new subwoofer.
What would you get in your E90? JL 12W6 or JL 12W7?
I am leaning toward JL 12W6 because I think it will rattle less and will not interfere with other frequencies as much.

If am gonna go with JL 12W6, what amplifier would you all recommend? Will I need to Dynamat my trunk? And I do not have the ski opening out. Should I take it out?

I have some experience with JLs but I have never used one in a E90 so first-hand experience would be nice.

I had a 12 w6 pushed by a 500/1 and recently upgraded to a 13W7 pushed by a 1000/1. The W6 in a ported box sounded good. The 13W7 or 12W7 needs a large box and if pushed by the 1000/1 some sort of upgrade to your electrical system; second battery, larger alt, big 3 upgrade, Meanwhile the 500/1 and the w6 dont require an electrical upgrade and the box is smaller. Id go with the W6, i just sold my system you should have bought it you would have got the whole package for 400 with a ported box..

Wouldn't a 500/1 be producing at most 500 watts at 12V? The JL 12W6 is a 600 watt subwoofer so I am wondering if there is something better for it than the 500/1. The 1000/1 is perfect for the JL 12W7 because it can produce 1000 watts at 12 volts and 3 ohms though.

Get 2 JL 10W6v2, put them in a sealed enclosure, and run the new HD 750/1 amp. You won't be disappointed.

I would prefer a single 12'' over two 10''. I want something to hit lower notes yet I do not need more volume. Also, I have two 8'' underseat subwoofers (Logic 7) that already produce higher bass notes. Agree?

I have the 500/1 and a W6v2. Personally I wouldnt go with 1000/1 because I blew the sub last year just with my 500/1. I can only imagine what would happen if I run the 1000/1

I was saying that 1000/1 is perfect for W7 not for W6. You blew a W6 with a 500/1?

You can blow a W6 with a $50 Walmart amp. Distortion is what kills most subs, not watts.

500/1 does not distort much though. And it is underpowered too. That is why I was wondering.

What is a good non-distorting 600 watt @ 12 volt RMS subwoofer for the W6?

From what i was told by a few JL heads and from my experience; the Slash amps are underrated. The 1000/1 can pump out 1300 rms at all ohms and the 500/1 puts out over 600 watt rms . From my experience the 12W6v2 runs at peak performance when it is receiving 450 to 500 watts anything more and you will hear distortion. The 500/1 is a powerhouse, it would be a perfectly match for a 13W6v2 IMO. I had the 500/1 pushing my 12W7 and it was able to push air, allthough it was underpowering it. These amps are well worth the money the R.I.P.S. really delivers smooth consistent power. Also i like to slightly underpower my subs to avoid over heating and clipping. I just somked my 12W7 when i hooked it up to my 1000/1, i mean i can stand on the cone and it wont move thats how badly i melted the VC. So be careful dont under estimate the 500/1 it can def push the 12W6 and is a perfect match.

Yes the 500/1 puts out at least 600 watts RMS. 1000/1 on a W6 even 13" will melt your coil and cease the sub!! Dont even run a 1000/1 on a 12W7. The only single sub that can handle the raw consistent power of the 1000.1 is the 13W7. How do i know? Ill post a pic of my frozen 12W7 tonight.

Only reason your recieving distortion on a 500/1 is because of poor wiring or in almost every case, your gain is not set corrrectly. Get a volt meter and follow JL directions its quite easy.

Do you have a bass knob in your car?

Please let me know how to approach that. I never figured out an aesthetic way of doing it.

Ive had a 10W7 with 1000.1 slash series in my E46 and BOYYYY did that thing SLAM. Everythingg rattled no matter what. The box barely fit in the trunk too.

I currently have a 10W6 in my suburban and its pretty good but if i put it in my car, id def. go with 2 of them.

IMO go with one W7..but remember it affects suspension, transmission, frequencies and alot of other shit..not just audio.

I am leaning toward JL 12W6v2 in a 1.25 cu ft. sealed enclosure.
