Oil level and Consumption
I had my E90 325i for just under 3 months and it has 3400 miles. When I first got it, the oil meter showed full. After about a month and a half it was 3/4 . Now about a month later it is at half. It is basically in the middle between Min and Full.
Is this normal? Or is oil consumption higher due to the car being new? And does anybody know how much oil has been lost/consummed from going from Full to Half? |

According to the BMW -- normal. Same happened to me, then at about 5k miles -- "!" add 1 quart. Went to the dealer and their response was -- you should see how much M3 spends??!@#$%^&* Added a quart they charged me $6 for it!!!), and the level did not move any more after that. Then, at 8k miles I did the oil change (1st year anniversary), they filled it up just below the MAX line, and 1500 miles later still is sitting there. They did point out that it should slow down or stop after the first oil change.
If you ask me -- a bunch of crap. New car should not burn the oil. Also, if that is normal, how come not EVERY e90 experiences the same problem??? However, it seems to have stabilized since then. Ah, another thing on oil -- after the first oil change I noticed a HUGE difference how car runs -- much smoother. It also felt that it shifted smoother?! |

You are right about not every e90 having the same problem.
I ordered my car at the same time as a friend. We both picked them up the same day. He has 3100 miles and I have 3300. His oil level is full and mine is at half. Quote:

Yup. Also, as Ward said, your dealership SA should not charge you for "topping off" the oil. |
