Best Wax

Quick question for all the pros on this site.

What's the best wax that a man can buy for an e90?

I like "Menzerna" which is for the German Car Paint.

If some of you knuckle heads who have nothing else to do but fawn over your beloved cars then "Zaino" is perhaps the most optically pure finish you can put on a car.

Stuff really is magic!

Im sure there is some tin of $800 super Canuba wax taken from the ears of Polyenasian virgins that will impress even the most anal retentive 335i Orange county.

Please do a search in the wash, wax, detailing section.

It's hard to answer because it depends on your budget, color of car, etc. Do you want durability or looks? Do you know how to properly prep a car as per the stickies in the detailing section?

But in order to be helpful, I assume no-off-the shelf products (that u can buy at Walmart, Kragens, etc). For <$100 I use Chemical Guys CG 50/50 on a regular basis.

For a high end wax that can challenge the thousand dollar waxes, Dodo Juice Supernatural.

For the >$1K waxes, I only know the names, but never tried, so can't recommend.

Oh, what the heck. If you want an over the counter product for <$20, I recommend Meguiar's NXT 2.0. Yeah, I've tried too many products, lol.

You're going to get all kinds of brand recommendations but I like Zaino and have been happy for 10 years using most of the product line.

What color is your car? We can help you find a good wax, but the "best" is completely subjective. There are tons of different brands and types.

I would suggest you check out the forum on this subject. One decision is if you want to go with wax or a sealant. I use the Menzerma FMJ sealant and I love it, really easy to work with and holds up for months. You will get 100 answers from 50 people as to what is the best. My best suggestion is to check out sites like detailedimage.com they have great info and professional grade products that really are much better than most of the stuff you can get at a regular auto supply store. Detailed image also has tutorials and reviews that help in product selection and application. I had always used regular products in the past but the Menzerma stuff gets amazing results with low effort overall, of course using a random orbital makes a huge difference.

Zymol. Use it on all our cars. My 2004 Cooper looks like brand new after 5.5yrs thanks to it. The 325i will be getting a coat this weekend.

My car is Black Sapphire..... I'm going for looks as opposed to durability and I have about, say €100, to spend.

I've done searches etc... but the washing and detailing fourm looks a bit outdated....

Here's the Swissvax UK site, I guess you can buy from that site.

There are different waxes/sealants for different applications. Some are more durable, some give a deep wet look, some give you a mirror-like reflection, some are easier to apply than others, etc. The absolute best? The answers you get will be very biased and opinionated. It just depends on your definition of "best." Considering that winter is coming, I would consider something more durable to last through the cold/brutal winter weather. Sealants have a reputation for being more durable. I would recommend Finish Kare 1000P or maybe Collinite 845(easiest to apply) or Collinite 476. After the winter you can then go with a less durable but better looking wax, since it is warmer and more comfortable to care for your car. You can even top a sealant with wax to get a good balance of protection and looks. Basically just read around the forum and you will learn a lot. My opinion for the best wax for your black car (in terms of looks and in your price range) would be one of the following: Dodo Supernatural, Pinnacle Souveran, Zymol Concours, or Swissvax Best of Show. Make sure you prep your car properly, because you can have the absolute "best" wax, but without good prep, it will look like $h!t.

I don't have any complaints about Poorboys Natty Blue. Under $20 for an 8oz container, goes on and comes off easily, and smells like cotton candy. Nice shine, and about the same durability as all those other carnauba waxes (which, by the way, isn't incredibly long).

A sealant will last longer, or buy some of the spray waxes (no experience to recommend one) if you aren't so anal retentive.

Its not about the wax my friend, its all about the things you do before you put that wax on. Even $10 meguiars will look good on a properly washed, clayed, and polished car.

Huge +1 to that!

Throwing on a coat of wax isn't what detailing is all about. Wax is your LSP (last step product), but it requires knowledge, practice, and a good amount of effort to achieve a truly beautiful shine. Preparation is absolutely key to how much your LSP makes the paint pop.

Well said jopa, prep work is where the real results come from. Once you master removing as much contamination as possible and removing as many imperfections as possible, they you can appreciate the differences between the LSPs. Start with the basics.
