Coolant level?

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has ever had the warning light appear on their dash of what looks like the oil can with a line under it. I believe (atleast on my old E46) it stands for Coolant or something like that. So have any of you needed to have more coolant put in your cars? I got like 9,000 miles on it, which isnt that much... Thanks in Advance!
