Help! Service Indicator on 700 miles

Guys

Still running in my new E92, only done 700 miles but now I'm getting service request on the dash. I didn't think it was due until the car had done 1200 miles?

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Ian

Spoken to the Dealer, they advised that the 2009 M3 has a different service schedule/software, a new car may not require the full 1200 miles depending on how it's been driven (i.e. if you have been giving the car a bit within it's running in limits you won't have to wait as long)

Hope this information is help.

Hi Ian,
I had the same message come up at 650-700 miles but if you go into the idrive it says that the service is due in 600 miles which is inline with the original 1250 mile running in service. I think it is just a warning and that the dealer is pulling your plonker!

Possibly, I've booked it in on 23rd so I will get the mileage in over that period anyway.

It was worth asking, I take what dealers say with a lot of salt

Yeah I just checked again on mine cos the light keeps on coming up. Under Vehicle information and vehicle status, engine oil, then it tells you in how many miles your service is due. Mine's booked for the 15th as I am going on a road trip (www.circuit-days.co.uk - Alpine Tour) so need to be able to use the full rev range for that! Frustrating only up to 5500 rpm eh?!

I was considering going on that trip myself but business has got in the way of it. I did the Cannonball 8000 in 06 & 07, you just can't beat the buzz from it.

Have fun j ust wish I could be there too

I got confused with the service indiactor also, but as others said, when you actually go into the computer it says it is due in xx miles which co-incides with the 1200 mile recomemdation from BMW.

Get those miles on asap, it is a different beast above 5,000 RPM!!!!!!!!!

Running In

Hi

I did hit 7000 rpm on about 3 occasions during my first 600 miles but only for about 2/3 seconds at a time will the car be okay?

Also after the 1200 mile service is it all systems go?

I hit it quite a few times before the service was done. Mainly due to the DCT catching me out being in manual mode when I thought it was in auto!

After 1200 miles you can give it hell for leather It really is a different car when you can use all the revs and it really comes alive at 6,000RPM. If you have DCT, set it to S5 and the shift lights encourage you to change at well past 8,000RPM

Sounds & feels awesome........enjoy

Dealer told me that the service is OK from 900 - 1200 miles, but not to go over the 1200.

And be careful with that right foot - it can bite. Got nicked last week for 96 mph on the M6 toll road ...... and wasn't even trying !
