Rear-ended...again!
Yeah, I guess you just get used to it. My first rear-end accident in the car was 2 hours after I picked it up from the dealer. This time, almost 1 year later, I get rear-ended by some high school kid. Had no license with him, no registration, no proof of insurance. He was also driving with a friend his age (on the way to school). That is illegal on a restricted license, assuming he even had a license. I threatened to call the police as he didn't have documentation, and he almost shit his pants. He was worried about his parents finding out I guess as he lived at home. I told him I would let him leave, just give me phone numbers, addresses, etc. of both himself and his friend. I asked him to give me a call after he got out of school with the insurance info, just to see if he would take responsibility for his actions. No, he didn't call, it also turns out the info he gave me was all bogus. So much for having faith in humanity.
Anyway, minor damage, but will require a bumper replacement. I got his license plate and also his VIN to be safe so they'll track him down. And people wonder why insurance rates go up.

I can not believe you actually trusted the kid and did not call the police. It's too bad there are people like these that ruin it for everyone. I hope you will be able to track him down and get reimbursed for the damages.
Good luck with everything and I hope this is a good lesson for everyone here.

Oz, I figured as long as I have his plate number, they'll get him. He was obviously on his way to school (books and such in the car) so it wasn't like he stole the car. We live in a somewhat upscale area and he was driving an 06 Scion which looked like (and he claims) was his. He'll get his...I have no doubt. He was pretty clueless as to what to do after the incident, I think he still believes he can deal with this without his parents finding out!

Call the cops and report it as a hit and run. Fuck-em:mad: If these punks can't be responsible, they deserve to get into trouble and loose their license. They are probably laughing right now about how they made a fool of you. He probably did have his license with him and the car is probably registered to his parents. I see so many bad drivers and young kids driving like idiots every single day.

Well, you really should have called the police and reported the accident, but now you know better. Sorry to hear about your car.

TECENG, I'm truly sorry for what happened, as a I had encountered a similar situation with my last car a few years back.
I would call the police immediately, give them the license plate and vin, as well as all the false info he had provided to you. There is a good possibility though that it was stolen, I mean if the kid saw you writing down the licence plate and VIN, why would he provide you with false info? he must've known that the car can be traced back to him or his family, unless he is really really dumb. I hope eveverthing works out, please keep ous updated.

I'm not looking for any sympathy, nor do I think I posted in such a manner. I am only posting to enlighten the rest of the group. Perhaps not calling the police was a mistake, but that's exactly what it was in hindsight. It wasn't "stupid" as another poster replied. I was there, I made a judgement call. I'll post a follow-up when things get resolved.

man, maybe i'm a little more skeptical about people, but if i get rear-ended by a highschool kid without any paperwork, i wouldn't trust one thing he'd say to me. i'd have cops on his ass in no time.
remember, when they get away with something like that only once, this becomes a "cool" story to tell for them. the little pricks need to learn they can't get away with shit like this. no mercy, man.

find the kid and teach him the lesson that his "parents" apparently never did. I onjce got into an accident my Junior year in college...my fault. I was on the way to a job interview and swore to the guy I would call him and pay for the damages, etc..... and I did.
What goes around comes around. These little sh*ts need to learn a lesson. Suspended license, and his parents' premiums go up.

Sorry to hear that and I hope it works out for you.
One thing you might want to consider is to carry one of those instant use cameras, then if anything happens you can get a few shots of the cars, damage, area, the other guy and so on. (I believe that Insurance companies tend to frown on digital pics alone because it's so easy for anyone to p'shop them). I was driving my Dad's car a couple of weeks ago when someone double parked alongside and scuffed the rear bumper in doing so. Fortunately he was pretty passive, but I got photo's of the damage, road, his car plate/VIN and his ugly mug. He did try to suggest I'd backed into him, but as I was 40 feet away in a shop and there were two passengers in the car he quickly realised that wasn't going to work and provided all his details. As it's only surface paint damage the insurers aren't going to do anything about it (company car). I'd have had a new bumper off the <insert expletive> to teach him a lesson. I'm just glad it wasn't my 320d.

By looking at your info on the situation, I doubt the car was stolen, I just think that both of those kids were EXTREMELY dumb. They probably went to school and bragged about how they totally fooled some guy in a BMW and don't have to pay for the damage to his car, not even thinking that there is any possible way they can be tracked down. He'll look real cool soon when he is taking the bus to school or his parents are driving him. Call the cops and report him for giving false information, the kid obviously won't learn unless he finally sees the consequences for pulling stuff off like this. I'm sure this won't have a real negative impact on his future, just scare him from breaking the law again!

16 years ago when i lived in the armpit of California i got hit by a person without a valid plate on their car and they got away. I was so upset people got away driving around without a valid plate and probably no insurance that I drove around that day for 20 minutes jotting down over 20 cars without valid registration stickers and took it to the police. Their response was they didn't have any time to chase people without valid registration or insurance since there were more important crimes to deal with!
