break in... long drive???
i was wondering if it would be okay to break in a car by taking a road trip...
would that mess it up if driving for a long period of time? or would it all be good just as long as i keep the speed low. |

Well...I did this with our 2004 E46. Drove it off the lot and proceeded directly to Phoenix, AZ (I live in Porterville, CA). The distance from here to there is about 560 miles. I used the cruise control to vary the speed every mile in small increments. For example, drive at 60mph, set cruise, drive 1 mile and then press the button to increase speed to 61, drive for 1 mile, then increase to 62 etc all the way to 80 then back down to 70, then back up, and on and on. I'll tell you what...that car is a helleva lot more responsive than my E90!

I did this, driving from Charleston, SC to Boston over a period of about a week. Stayed off the interstates, and on any long stretches of highway tried to vary rpm's, either by changing speeds, or varying gears to maintain one speed. It's been seven months since break-in and I can't find anything to complain about (other than the ubiquitous sticking door handle problem).
