Another System Diagram, Yawn....
Well, if you can stay awake, what do you think of my system I am installing next weekend?
I have everything but the Hifonics MX-2. It is going in a 09 US 335d with stock Professional Radio. Comments? |

BTW, why five signal wires going to the mx-2? Center channel?

He duped the LF +.
What is a Hifonics MX-2? Does it have balanced in? I agree, and think that running OE underseat subs off of OE amp works fine without a high-pass,but running OE woofers off of a new amp has caused OE woofer failure a few times, and I would not recommend it. I would high-pass them at 50. |

Great points, I am contacting Hifonics to see if that unit accepts differential inputs, if not maybe I will have to switch to an Audiocontrol product.
I plan to use the line driver (either Hifonics or Audiocontrol) to split the Front signal from the HU into Front and Rear low level signals for my 4-channel amp. Does anybody see any problem with this? I suppose if I used a 6-channel output line driver, I could output the sub channel directly from to my sub amp and then use the 3rd and 4th channel low pass filter to effectively bandpass (along with the high pass filter of my 4-channel amp) the underseat subs .... So maybe I could go with an Audiocontrol Matrix or a 6XS. I took out the accidental duplication of the "Left Front - " line out. |

Some multichannel line drivers don't let you get 6ch out with only 2ch in - so check.
The idea of using one as a "buffer amp" works and I've done it before. I know Arc and Rockford make devices that could work too. Can you afford a DQXS? Get all that xover-ness and an EQ? |

I sent an email to Hifonics, but I got a question back asking for the layout of the differential inputs from the OEM head unit. I would have thought Hifonics would know if their line drivers worked using differential outputs directly from a BMW OEM Professional radio. VP E, I will keep in mind the DQXS, sure looks nice, but I have to make my car payments too ya know. |

Considering that John Studley apparently OWNS a BMW, I would have too... but I think he has an E46, and NO manufacturers are doing a good job on this score...

So I have decided to go with the Matrix, I can always put in an EQ later if I feel the need. I may also try switching the OEM amp to the underseat subs too. Thanks all.
Dannyboy, if u splice into the preamp inputs (which is best because they are flat) keep in mind that they are differential and your amp or line driver must be compatible. |
