Steering wheel in the 335i

I test drove a 335i yesterday with the sports package. Such a nice car! However, the steering wheel was rather thin (i.e. whimpy feel).

Anyone know if BMW will come out with a M Sports Package for 2008? The E46 M sports package had nice extra touches (like a thicker steering wheel).

Did you test drive a car with or w/o the paddle shifters? I've noticed the steering wheel w/o the paddles has thicker palm support at the 2 and 10 o'clock positions. The steering wheel with the paddles doesn't have this and seems of the same thickness all round.

Hell. The M steering wheel would rock! :rocks:

I did drive the car w/ paddle shifters. My wife's trying to talk me into an auto. Now I've got more ammo against it.

Check out the DIY on replacing the steering wheel. $130 and 2 hours of your time.

The E92 non-sport steering wheel is thicker than the E90 non-sport steering wheel. The E92 steering wheel is so much nicer than mine.

The E92 has only the sport steering wheel, at least for the moment.

Bought the M-sport wheel for mine. Once you have it in your hand, you'll never want to let go!

Thanks. What's involved with changing the wheel? Is it just the outside part (i.e. the circular wheel), or do you replace the wheel including the middle part?

I would strongly recommend that you have your dealer switch wheels for you. The car battery will have to disconnected to prevent the airbag deploying.
The M sport wheel will likely fit, but double check with your dealer's parts department before ordering. You can order just the wheel or wheel plus M logo trim ring which you will need for an E92. This wheel is slightly smaller in diameter, but the rim is thicker than the E90 sport steering wheel. Also, the leather has perforated holes. If you go for MT, you can also get a matching M sport shifter.

You can also get a matching M sport hand brake handle.
The diameter is 369 mm for both(M sport wheel and sport wheel).

BMW Germany strongly recommends the change be done by an authorized dealer because of safety reasons.
