iPod loads onto Nav and plays but no sound??

When I connect my ipod via BMW's supplied USB cord the songs load up to the Nav screen and plays but no sounds comes out. When I use the other Aux port on the BMW cord songs play/get sound but all controls must be used via iPod itself.

What am I doing wrong??
