oil filter part number (new?) question

Picked up oil and oil filter today to change my oil. The oil filter is part number 11-42-7-566-327. On the sheet it says this part number replaced 11-42-7-541-827. Could someone please verify this is the correct filter? I don't want to install the wrong one..

Thanks ahead of time...

yeah, 327 is the numver I wrote down from another thread. I'll be picking up mine soon to do the oil change. I've heard people paying as little as $9.50 for them but my dealer wants $12. O well, just glad it's not a more expensive part otherwise the surcharge would be even higher.

Circle BMW has them for $8, I called this morning. Had I not needed this filter for a few days I would have ordered a few from them.. Their shipping would probably be 5,6 dollars. So if you ordered 3, it'd be around $10 each. With the $6 you spend on the 3 filters you can buy yourself a nice beer...

Their oil is really cheap too, but they wouldn't send it to me.

Circle
8 + 7 (5) = $44

BMW of Peabody
12.47 + 7 (7) = $61.50

So even if they could have shipped it to me, since 7 qts of oil has some weight to it, again the difference would have been less than or equal to one beer. So I ended up just getting it here in Boston...

Either way I can't wait to get it done. I'm at 10,000 miles right now and it is feeling like crap. The engine has very little power until higher rpms and is not smooth compared to how it use to run. My A4 used to feel like this when I needed an oil change, then after changing the oil it felt like a brand new car again..

Are you a BMWCCA member? You get 20% off parts, oil, etc...

How are you going to get to the drain plug? Do you have ramps?

I've got a little over 5K on mine but haven't figured out if I want to change it now or wait till it calls for an oil change

Yeah I wish I knew about CCA before I bought all this crap.. Been thinking of joining, if I decide to buy any other expensive parts I will join beforehand. Also, I was thinking of waiting until the spring to join, once the schools and autocrosses start back up? Are you a member?

I bought Rhino Ramps (12,000 lb version) at Autozone. I'll tell you how well they work.. If they work well (fingers crossed), you're welcome to stop by and change your oil.. I have the other tools as well. My car is at 10K and it needs changing badly (I push my car hard).. I'll let you know how the oil change goes.. Looking at the DIY, it doesn't look bad at all..

I've been a member for a few years now. It’s definitely worth it. Let me know if you sign up and I'll give you my member number to use as a referral.
Yeah, let me know about the ramps. Are they low enough to clear the front of the car?

Yeah, the ramps are really tight to the front bumper. At autozone in the parking lot I put one down in front of the wheel as a preliminary check. It is very tight, but yes, there is clearance. I actually posted a thread about this but didn't get many responses, so I guess I'll just have to see on my own..

You could put down a 2X10 piece of wood in front of the ramps and drive up on that first and then up on the ramps. That may give you a little more clearance.

My car has a little less clearance than an IX so I would probably have to do that anyway.

Did you see any 335’s at BMW Peabody? The inventory page on their web site says they have 3 of them.

Looks like it should be okay, see the last few posts in this thread. That member has a 330 with sport package and uses these ramps..

I am going to get some pieces of rubber to put under the back two corners as other members suggested...

Nope. I went to the Centenial Drive location and didn't see any over there. I was told they were at the other location. I did see two incredible e46 m3's though, too bad I didn't have a camera with me..

Changing my oil again.. Just picked up some oil and a filter..

11-42-7-566-327 is still the latest number for the oil filter..

$73 I just dropped. That's crazy.. Filter was $15 and Oil was ~$8/quart. Man I wish I was a CCA member. That's been on the to do list for a while now, maybe I should get on that..

just a question, when you guys have full maintenance covered, why dont you just let the dealer do it instead of spending money out of pocket? im just asking not trying to flame.

Every 15K, I have the dealer do it under the free maint.

I'm right in between right now, right around 22K. It's running like it needs one again.. So I'm taking care of it.

Same thing happened right around 9-10K.

I had the same thing on my Audi, you could really tell when it needed oil changed.. You change the oil and the difference is night and day. It feels like driving a brand new car again..

Some like to keep the oil fresh, changing it long before its expiry date, then letting the dealer pay at the normal mileage/date

Exactly.. It depends on driving style as well. I drive my car the way it was intended in my opinion, more of a "spirited" approach . If you drive your car sedately, I would imagine the BMW recommendations might be fully adequate. Based on my driving style, and personal experience, it's due for a change..

Another way to look at it too - This is costing me $70, so on average an oil change costs me $35, since every other one is free. Not bad at all IMO.. To keep the car running well and smooth...

mileoneparts has oil filters for $75 for 10. It's the 11-42-7-566-327 part number one. If you anticipate doing a few more, or if you have some friends who do their own oil changes as well, it's a good route to go. Do you know if this part is the same for all E90's, including 335s?

I just did an oil change on all my cars over the weekend.......total cost: $120

E90, GX470, Honda Fit

3 oil filters(OEM BMW filter, Mobil 1, Extra Guard Fram)
18 quarts of synthetic oil(Mobil 1 0W40, Quaker State 5W30, and Penzoil 5W20)

It's always good to buy everything in bulk.....I bought 10 BMW OEM oil filters.....5 left.
