Possible to retrofit 335i sport steering wheel+shifters?
I love the new sport steering wheel with the metallic accents. Would love to put it in my car.
Also I wonder how those shifters(on steering wheel) are connected? Would it be possible to retrofit into a 325i? |

installing the wheel is probably no different than installing the m-sport wheel now. AS far as teh shifting paddles, are they in the same place as the ones on the 325? I have a 6-mt so I have no idea.

The 2006 325 / 330 never had the option for paddle shifters, so if it's even possible to retrofit the cars, it would be a major job.

I remember reading somewhere before (dont remember where) that you could retrofit the paddles to work with the Step shifter. You just had to splice a few wires in the shifter area with the paddles.

my guess would be that you would just have to splice the wires from the paddle shifters into the wires for the switch sensors on the stick. I don't think it's a very difficult job if you have knowledge of electronics. Just running wire from the steering wheel to the center console, and wiring the wheel in a way that doesn't kink when you turn.

There is some serious rewiring to make it work... Think about it... You would have to connect your steering wheel controls to your transmission through your computer. As of now, none of that wiring is in place...

It depends on your skill level. As I mentioned, if you have knowledge of electronics, then it doesn't seem to be too difficult a job.
I am an engineer, and work with electronics on a daily basis, and I would love to tackle a project like this. Especially for the "cool" factor of having working shifter paddles. Too bad I'm a die hard manual transmission driver. |

Seems overly easy.....
Would you have to opt out of regular mode and use DS only? Also, Is'nt the 335i & 328 step transmission different from the 330/325? |
