Dealer wants to drill holes in front bumper!
Hi all,
Need some help, I have read that some of you have used clips in place of drilling holes in the bumper for the front plate. My dealer said they have to or they can't get an inspection sticker. Can someone in MA confirm whether or not this is true. If not can you tell me where I can get the clips, I am picking up my car on Tuesday and really don't want the holes if it can be avoided. Thanks in advance! Keith Last edited by klynch06; 07-11-2009 at 03:19 PM.. |

There are a few different ways to get around not having a plate. Gio has the one that screws into the tow hook. BDH821 just doesn't have one. So I would look into the one that Gio has if they won't inspect it without one.

It would be illegal for them to give you an inspection sticker without a front plate. There are two options that I know of:

Maybe just zip-tie it somewhere during inspection?

My dealer said the same thing. I told them I WOULD NOT buy the car if they mounted the front license plate bracket. I have not have a front plate on my 1er for over a year now and not once had a problem. My suggestion is do not get a sticker thru the dealer. Bring it to some other place and either 2 sided tape it on then rip it off after you get the sticker. Or, PM me and I'll tell you a place to bring it to that wont care. That's what I did and BMW repaid me the cost of my first inspection sticker.

I have a go mini go front plate mount that goes in the tow hook, I only use it to get the car cleared if I get pulled over for no front plate. That said, if you want to borrow it you definitely can.
I also told my dealer that I would not take the car if they drilled holes in the bumper. -Chuck

Thanks!
Hi Chuck,
Thanks for the offer, I just might take you up on that! I am on my way to the dealer now to look at the car and if they haven't already drilled it I would like to borrow yours and tell them I have a solution. I live just north of Boston are you anywhere I could get to easily to pick it up? Much appreciated! Keith |

Thanks!
Hi Chuck,
Thanks so much for your more than generous offer. The dealership actually let me pick the car up today and did not drill the holes in the bumper, there are tie clips holding the front plate on. Now all I have to do is get a go mini go bracket like yours for the future. Once again thanks!! Keith |
