Something is very strange here...

I can't seem to find a set of centercaps that fit my wheels! I ordered a set of V710s brand new in box from a user on here that bought them but never mounted them. The guy I bought them from forgot to include the centercaps. No biggie... I was just planning on reusing the BMW caps that came stock with my 162s. Well, after I got the V710s mounted up, I tried to put the BMW caps on and they didn't fit! I thought that was odd, as everyone else seems to have reused their caps without a problem.

So I emailed the seller and asked him to send me out the caps that came with the wheels when he got them, and he said they were somewhere in his garage but he'd try to mail them out when he got the chance. Not feeling like waiting, I got VMR to send me a set of caps (which they did for free, might I add... great guys!) and I just got them in today. Well, when I pulled them out of the bag, I knew right away they weren't going to fit because they're the same size as my BMW caps. Sure enough, they don't fit either!

Now why wouldn't the stock VMR centercaps fit on the V710s? That doesn't make sense. I've ordered a set of BMW 65mm centercaps to see if maybe they fit (I think the ones on my 162s are 70mm). I hope they do. But meanwhile, I'm wondering what's going on with my wheels. Do I have some sort of knock-off V710s? They look right, and they were certainly brand spanking new. I sent another email to the seller asking where he got the wheels, but I haven't heard back from him yet. If these 65mm caps don't fit, I'm going to be pissed.

Thoughts?

Im glad we could help by sending out the caps for you.

Give the caps a slight nudge and the caps will snap into place without a problem. You'll need to use more then 2 fingers. All measurements for our VMR caps were designed after the OE BMW Cap. I currently dont have the cap on hand, but Ill post the part # when I get the office tomorrow.

First off, thanks again for sending those caps out. Secondly, I've tried everything short of hammering the wheelcaps in place and they just won't go in. It's definitely not a slight nudge. It's almost as if I'm trying to break the thing to get it to fit into place, and it still won't get in there. Meanwhile, the centercaps pop right in to my stock 162s without a problem. There is definitely a difference in the size of the centercap opening on the V710s compared to the stock wheels. I'd guess around 3 or 4 millimeters, which is why I've ordered some 65mm centercaps to see if they fit.

Everyone else on this forum seems to not have had any problem getting the centercaps to fit on their V710s. There's definitely something wrong here.

were the wheels powder coated or painted? or are these the factory gunmetal finish from VMR? Thats the only thing I could think of, is that they were re-painted and caused the center cap opening to be slightly smaller

It's definitely not a paint issue either. The hole for the centercap is a good 2-3mm smaller than it should be. I can't even force the stock VMR centercaps in there... I cracked one trying to get it to fit.

When you get the chance, please e-mail Charles the pictures requested. Something does feel a little strange here, but high resolution pictures will do the trick.

Here's one closeup of my left rear wheel centercap area. I've tried putting both the VMR centercaps you guys sent me and the stock BMW centercaps in, and neither will fit at all. You see the inner-most ring in the centercap area? That's the part that is preventing the centercaps from fitting all the way in there.

By the way, that's not a scratch in the finish on that last pic, that's just a glare from the camera. I went back out to check again just to make sure.

Looks like the guys are right. That seems to me a similar concave mesh design but unfortunately not our V710's.

Man, I am PISSED!

First off, I appreciate you guys for helping me figure this situation out. Now the second step is for me to figure out what to do. This is the For Sale post that I responded to, and the guy that I bought the wheels from.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=V710

I'm going to give him a chance to make this right... but I am not going to be very patient at this point. I hope he does the right thing, because so far, this has not been acceptable.

Maybe the original seller can contact his Chinese manufacturer and see if they can also copy some decent caps?

I want to know who the wheel manufacturer is so that I know know the quality of the wheels that were falsely decribed to me as V710s. I don't want the paint to start flaking off, or worse, the wheels to crack because these are some cheap knock-offs that are built poorly.

It would have been one thing if they were advertised as V710 reps or something like that, so at least I could have assumed the risk myself... but they weren't. I was told that these are V710s.

The thing is, the seller has high feedback ratings and has been buying and selling items on this site for awhile. I trusted him. I don't want to believe he intentionally tried to scam me, but at the very least he didn't check to make sure he was selling exactly what he said it was, and that's a problem.

Let us know what you decide to do OP. If the seller decides to take the wheels back, shoot me a PM and we'll take care of you.

Goodluck!

I appreciate all the help. I should have just bought from you in the first place. Oh well, lesson learned. The seller and I are in the process of trying to work out a partial refund. At this point, I've mounted and balanced new tires, and switched out my TPMS as well. If we can agree on a refund price, then I'll just keep the wheels and hope they hold up. If not, I will return them and DEFINITELY hit you up for some real V710s.

i still can't figure out who makes those, i've been looking at everyone else, bbs, hartmann, etc. i can't find anyone that has that lip thing. can't believe how many companies have that similar design.

i'll keep trying if you don't get an answer from the seller.
