I'm trying to fit a hartge replica spoiler and I can see I need to
trim/sand here and there.
what do I use to sand?
the spoiler is already painted. would sanding hurt(crack) the paint?

I also had to trim the hartge lip(original) down in order to get it fit.

I had to buy a Dremel kit from home depot(returned it after I used it). Mine lip was also painted at the time of sanding/trimming. No problem with paint cracking.

As long as you don't bend/crack the lip, paint should stay fine. I would be careful and keep the soft touch though, if you want to maintain the paint job.

It was big pain in the ass to trim it down. If you are used to using Dremel or any handy tools in your garage, you should be fine. I consider myself pretty good with using my hand, and it still was a tough job to trim it nicely to make it fit. Also, make sure to cover/tape your original bumper(do not use thick tapes, because the lip won't fit if you do), because in the process of trimming/sanding, you will have to trim Area A(say if you have multipla areas to trim), make sure it fits right, then trim Area B, make sure it fits right, trim Area C, etc etc.

Very time consuming process but nothing too hard. Good weekend project however.

lol, funny you posted those 3 pics. Cause those 3 tools are EXACTLY what I used.

For the sections where you have to cut it because it'll take too much time to sand it down, I used that round cutter(1st pic) to cut(as you mentioned). For sanding, the 3rd one works great overall, especially if you have to trim those tight corners that fits around the foglight area. 2nd one does give you better precise sanding without making weird angles to the lip.

Go give it a try. Considering you already have a dremel tool, I assume you used it before. That case, you shouldn't have a problem with it. Just make sure you have several hours to spare for this trimming project.

I finished the job yesterday. it took a couple of hours to fit/cut/sand and then install the lip.
This was indeed the perfect tool for the job. The paint did not crack.

what reason did you give them when they asked you why you are returning it? Might come in handy later...
